Just bought an '85 Fender Jazz bass special

And I'm going to kick some ass with some serious bass lines. Hide the women and children!

What color is it? My old bassist in college had the cream-colored one. Baddist looking electric bass that ever was.

    Hello Michael.

It is the triple black one: Black body, black headstock, and black neck with rosewood fretboard. Has both Jazz and precision bass pickups, non-active. Made during the golden years of Japanese guitar production! If you would like one yourself, check out Ebay occasionally. I saw a couple of these in there last week.

Congrats! I actually have a similar bass, although a fretless version. It's incredibly versatile alright--and it has the mysterious added benefit of being extremely intuitive to play in tune.

Very cool, indeed, Jazoo. Which color scheme do you have?

Same as yours--black on black on black! I've had some really interesting results recording it by doing the following:

I mic a little bass amp--nothing special, but I run it at a low volume and it sounds good--and I also stick a condenser mic about 5 inches from the top of the neck and compress the bejeezus out of it. I combine the two signals and wow--lovely and rich, with plenty of attack. Just don't breathe while you're recording!

Interesting! I'll give it a try. I will probably keep this bass forever! It is a classic. Perhaps I'll pickup a fretless version if the bass inspires me to get good. Take care, C
