How could I be trying to intimidate you? I'm trying to annoy you, because your holier-than-thou attitude deserves no less. You are a hypocrite. You are so quick to point out the mistakes of others...trying doing it for yourself sometime. I gave you a golden opportunity to extend the olive branch to Scott and to apologize, and you turned it down. Your loss. But perhaps you might want to ask yourself why it is that, when someone else uses the tone that Jesse employed towards Scott, you call them out for it. Yet when Scott is the target, not only are you silent, you become a cheerleader! And not only a cheerleader, but an apologist as well, since you came after me after I dared to question the validity of Jesse's statements. You don't think s/he was being a bit of a bully in her post? She goes off on a long, rattling post accusing him of being sophmoric, misogynist, etc. etc., and that's not bullying, but my stupid little question is? You have a funny definition of the word.
So I don't know what you expect of me, but I no longer expect anything of you when it comes to dealing with others fairly.
And you didn't answer the question.

Sweetness.
You know, when it was her and her newfound little comrade, things were super fucking sweet.
Now the shoe is on the other foot.

Hi:
Lois posted on the LCFR thread on 6/30, around 10p, that she was going to delete the entire thread, saying it was probably a good idea, as it had "digressed", due to what she called "our inbred family".The outcome of killing that thread as a solution to killing the issues raised there is, for me, outlined below.
Where my own participation is concerned:I posted my last respose to Scott around 4p on 6/30. The last sentence of that post (deleted in the LCFR scorched earth operation) was, "I have crossed the line into meaness. I intended no harm. I bow in the 10 directions. Good life to you, Scott". There remains, for me, a distinction between anger and meaness. The flashpoint of post #102 was expressing my anger, and a direct challenge to percieved sexism. There is, in the licensing thing we "agree" to in posting, a stipulation that sexually offensive language is a no: discussion of sexism is not prohibited.
By my count,I used "I" 3 times in my last line to Scott, as in I fucked up in digressing from confronting your language into my own sense of meaness (not to mention futility).
Tippy referred to me as a "firestarter", which is far from the worst name for me here. I see the combination of my newness to the Alley, and my extremely direct and strongly worded confrontation of Scott, as a flashpoint, and accept that it was provocative. It appears you have to post an unspecified number of times before you wade into the fray. I don't know what that number is: I am a rookie poster, and see how sort of solid and not very porous the JC culture is to upstarts. I would only object to being called an arsonist, in such a flammable house, inhabited by some sporting flamethrowers.
Anyway, I didn't hit and run, I hit and layed out to breathe, following my surrender to my meaness and futility. I say this, of course, in an enviornment in which surrender to anything will be viewed by a few as weak.I have not been on the lam, I've been posting on music elsewhere, talking to Mr. Gonzalez, and controlling the one thing I can ouring gas on a conflagration that is blazing on just fine without me. I came on strong. If anyone would see my 13 -lined post #102 (hereafter referred to as p102),however, as causing their troubles, I would say no.

Jesse, I knew in my gut that when I posted that, that it was both unnecessary and wrong and so I owe you at the least an apology for that. That came from having felt patronized by you earlier in the thread which irritated me because I have been around awhile and experimented on certain topics for years such as feminism and racism and they, sadly, always seem to come to much much worse than if I'd said nothing at all for whatever reasons, my own ineptitude and high walls in the mind irrecoverable to certain ideas, but that was no reason for me to stoop and be petty. I really did like the stuff especially that you wrote in the other thread--it was sad though that people were uncool with it because of their first formed impression of you.

Now I do feel like I need to step in and speak up.
The "nice ass" comment would make me slug a guy in real life. Thanks for throwing gasoline on the fire, Crawjo.
Bluenoter is more sensitive to some of the language than I am, but that is no reason for anybody to go off on her and specifically start saying inflammatory things. I've never met Rita, but I'd like to. No, I don't think she's a "man-hater." I think that some men feel a woman must hate men when a woman won't sit down and be a good, manageable girl in their presence.
And no, I've not specifically defended Rita before on this thread because she's perfectly capable of that herself. But that statement of Crawjo's was completely out of line.

Yow!! I've missed so much and now am waaaay out of the loop. Did someone mention fried chicken?
Scott: I don't think he's sexist or piggy--he's a legman--fine-doesn't like big you know what (that leaves me out--oh well--and Scott said I was one of his favorite posters on the B-day thread--I hope he still likes me). Scott is a-ok in my book.
Crawjo: What's with you? I feel like I barely know you. You're usually so erudite and sophisticated. I'm really surprised that you would ask BN if she had a nice a**. That wasn't too polite. I take it as a momentary laspe from a polite, well brought up man.
Tip and BN don't seem like manhaters to me. Seems to me the women who post on this board are, de facto, NOT men haters! I've met Tip (love her) and would love to meet BN someday.
NOW, to the important part--Bri and I's marriage. Brian, I accept. But, you must know I am very jealous. I will not tolerate any mooning over Tip, on or off of her pedestal, or any mooning over anyone else either! Got it, baby?
Now, is everyone ok here!?

Well, there you go!
stonemonkts, I had followed up your post last night with your very own specially packaged Apology but it got lost--I was having a heck of a time with jazzcorner last evening/night. Anyone else? Anyway now I can't find it but I hope you will accept this generic version in its stead.
(and to make this extra special, I've added sunglass guy which is breaking new ground as I don't think I've ever added sunglass guy before.)
I had the WEIRDEST dream last night. Scott and Monte and others will love this because I was working for the CIA and I was approached by the terrorists to become a double op--I think because I was afraid to say "No" (or else because the money was really good or both), I agreed to it by signing off on their contract (which they have mailed to me). I then took this contract, in triplicate, into my boss to give her her copy. (Yes, she was a chick--petite, with bobbed hair and thin lips and wearing a navy skirted suit--you know attractive in that buttoned down way, like Scully.) Sitting across the desk from me, she explained to me that this meant I was going to have to be let go. I was like "What? Lose my job? Can I change my mind?" "Well, you've signed the contract already." Anyway, when the terrorists came to pick me up, the leader guy who came into my boss's office was super duper duper scary looking--certainly the most evil looking individual I have ever imagined--simultaneous with his entrance at the open door, Bossie (also sufficiently alarmed by his appearance) shuffled me off to the side and said to go hide behind the wall. She then told him that sorry but I was unavailable to work with them.
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Regardless, there remained forever a target on my life and because the terrorists now knew where I lived and where the CIA place was, both became targeted for complete destruction and we had to move everything, all the equipment, crap and paperwork--Everything!--and my coworkers at the CIA were peeved with me--I mean REALLY peeved. I think my subconscious was telling me to beware of junk mail.

I do too. My dreams are the classic "falling" and one in which a GIANT shrimp, having opened the crate it was in, was hovering over me in a menacing way, smiling [yes, smiling] in an evil way.
There was also the one in which my upper body became that of a body-builder, gone way overboard, while the rest of me was the way it is. I kept tipping over.

And if they did (say I had a nice ass or said so to a friend; or said anything about a woman's ass: too big, too fat---been there too), I would want to slug them.
Crawjo, just admit it: it was a rude, uncalled for question. I had begun to gain some respect for you based on your civil discussion on other threads (felt you were being more clear about when you were playing devil's advocate and asking more questions; being a more civil debater), but your comment to Rita on this thread definitely deflated that growing respect.

Ooh, don't think I've ever had nuclear holocaust dreams--that IS Bad. Gosh, I forget how mentally stressful that was growing up during the cold war era--by the time I arrived, the threat had been around for awhile and so while I definitely remember being frightened about it, the degree of my fear would have been less than as compared to the rudest awakening as it must have been in the years following WWII. But still I was afraid. Not that I still shouldn't be for the proliferation and hot global contest we are engaged in today.
And yeah, that dream had some adrenaline, but mostly I was just scratching my head for my dorkitude--I'm sure it related to my participations here at jazz corner. It was unique for a dream with a beginning, a development and a resolution--often dreams aren't relateable even to put in words for myself.

Cue to the ferris wheel scene in "The Third Man".....Welles to Cotton:
"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love--they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.''

What hypocrisy is that exactly and I ask that with all respect because I honestly do not see what is constantly being referred to as hypocrisy. For example, I have never heard Bluenoter call anybody male or female a name. I have never heard her refer to men's asses or other body parts. I haven't even seen her swear. So where's the hypocrisy?
Clint nailed it a while ago: rudeness is never acceptable. And I admit that I've had my moments too.

Crawjo, I would say that the problem is that Scott was over the top early in his career, making derogatory comments before bluenoter did anything in particular to elicit these comments except disagree with his politics (i.e., "Scott, you're a republican," response: "Rita, you're a lesbian.") which set this ball in motion. The attacks on Scott's part were not parallel to the discussion, but simply snipes set at a target for someone's gender. Those early derogatory comments were tolerated without comment on the board--I remember this--and I didn't want to start chasing down the numerous inappropriate comments because well, it's greater than a full time job and god knows, one wasn't going to paid for it, in fact, one would just end up in the position that bluenoter is in now. When we say anything, people get there panties in a wad and start silencing us and we end up at this impasse 100% of the time. Whereas Bluenoter made a decision, it appears to me, that she was not going to let Any potentially sexist remarks pass. Her consistency is to point out the prevalence of the remarks in our language--since these images and words are EVERYWHERE, most of which we just take for granted, and don't recognize the imbalance that we perpetuate by their use. The drama has built from there with varying degrees of error on both sides (in my singular opinion).
