Hey Steve, in my trawl through the Record Reviews archives, I stumbled on the thread about Tago Mago. I'm a big fan of it myself, but also Ege Bamyasi, Future Days, and just last week I heard Monster Movie for the first time, which I think rates up with the others.
Definitely Tago Mago can be considered godlike - the first four tracks are amazing - Paperhouse, Mushroom, Oh Yeah and Halleluwah would, if released as one album, constitute one of the greatest rock albums OAT, no doubt about it.

Cool clips Uli, cheers! It inspired me to play Organic Resonance, the one he did with Braxton, and excellent stuff it is too.
Followed by some Masada - Live at Middelheim, not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

Infinite Search - Miroslav Vitous - a truly timeless classic, great to hear Joe Henderson in this setting
Weather Report - Domino Theory - not nearly as bad as some would tell you.

It really is the dog's bollocks isn't it? Colin Walcott is just phenomenal on it - one of the few white guys to play the tabla well - Shard/Spring is Really Coming is very funky indeed. He really utilises the melodic possibilities of the tabla in his backing. Sail and Opening have always been two of my fave Oregon tracks. And you've got Silence of a Candles on there too.

The 'sheesh has most recently bin listenin' to the following rave picks;

Miles Davis; some excellent boots, from '73 and '75, having finally gotten on board the dimeadozen gravy train.

Keith Jarret; Standards Live + the Standards Live DVD. Whoo smokies! I think we gotta live one here!

Them's fightin' words Latty old chap! And I can't imagine a world where someone would have not 1 but 3! Jarretts available (you conjure an image of a dark and dystopian future where clones are bartered as slaves at some boisterous marketplace) to trade for 1 Bley.
Having said that Bley is remarkably good. I particularly like his work in the Jimmy Giuffre trio - now there was a group!

Check out my new thread Latty, and we'll discuss the Jarrett vs. Bley thang at greater length and (hopefully) in company.

Architect of the Silent Moment

Scott Colley

Well conceived and executed, but perhaps this should be called modern creative music, or some other title, as opposed to what has historically been known as jazz.

Why not call it jazz?
I like Subliminal better than this one, still a good album

Now checking out the criminally underrated Looking East, by Ralphe Malik.
Prior to that I was grooving to Tony Williams - Spring, which I actually prefer to Lifetime

Because it seems like music that has progressed well beyond the boundaries of what has gone before. But who cares? The audience for this stuff must be pretty small anyway.

In Pursuit

Donny Mccaslin

McCaslin also pushes the boundaries, though the last track features a nice rock-tinged guitar solo.

Classified

Brubeck Brothers

The Brubeck Brothers revive a third stream approach with a suite of classical-influenced compositions.

A bit of Paul Bley, as recommended - Open to Love, Closer, and as a member of the Jimmy Giuffre Trio - Fusion, a real classic of 'free jazz', and a pointer of the way.
