Finally, Spring!

Still cold but finally some signs that winter's over, thank goodness. The first robins arrived two days ago. Yesterday the first croci greenery started coming up. Just now I've been watching our deer herd grazing out in front of the house. They look great. Obviously had themselves a good winter, foodwise. Four new babies.

I thought Spring starts about mid-August up there.

We had some purple croci show up in our mini-backyard this week. Also the first time this year I went to work jacketless. So I guess it is actually here, though I thought I heard radio reports about a chance of snow just in time for the Mets season opener.

Frickin' moles appear to have wintered in one of my crocus beds, feeding off the bulbs, the little sonsabiches. Like I don't have enough to do ...

I don't care so much about spring, I just want to see if my icon is working. One, maybe two days of nice weather, then it's so cold skin you forgot you had is shriveling.

Glad to hear things finally warming up your way, Gary.

I posted this in the The Gardening Thread, but LOTS of things budding out here, including many of the trees. Also started hearing our first migrant birds singing within the last week or so (Yellow-throated Warbler, Northern Parula, etc.).

Well, until this morning it had looked like the first harbingers of Spring had arrived here, too. We had lawns greenin' up, bulbs sneakin' a peek, pussy willows poppin', perennials perkin', then ... 3" of fresh snow overnight.

It won't last long with daytime temps in the high 30's-low 40's, but it's still a bit of a drag. It's beautifully sunny and clear today, which should melt most, if not all of the snow.

We've had spring for a coupla weeks...took all the plants out to let them bask in the sun. Carol transplanted a bunch of stuff and the plants actually began growing more quickly. And then, what I pray is hopefully the last cold front came through this morning, and it's supposed to freeze tonight and tomorrow night. So, in all the plants came. The banana palm is reading over my shoulder and laughing 'cause he didn't think I was gonna talk about him like i promised. Uh oh...I must have spring fever again. I hope it wasn't the palm tree that was talking.

Wrong. Spoke too soon. It snowed again over the weekend and snow is predicted all through this week.

Well, it won't last long, now. I hope ....

It snowed here Sunday night, Gary. The forecast is calling for wet snow tonight or tomorrow. After that it'll probably warm up and stay warm but I wouldn't bet on it. You know what we say in New England. "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute".........................

70s and beautiful here. April is by far my favorite month in the Carolinas, no mistake. May and October aren't far behind.

It's April 7th. It's also snowing. The forecast is for 6-12 inches. Spring? What spring? This is unusual even for Connecticut.......................

Past few days have been in upper 40s and even, gasp, into the 50sF. The snow's gone now (for the moment at least). Still fairly cold at night.

All of these years I've been driving without mishap, weather be damned, hundreds of thousands of miles, and last week, in fucking April, stone cold sober, first thing in the morning, I hit an unexpected ice patch in shady area of our road and had an abrupt encounter with a tree. More than four large in damage. Fuckin' tank, though, that truck. All of the damage was cosmetic. I didn't move forward or back an eighth of inch. Really good seatbelts. I didn't even feel an impact to speak of. Glad the frickin' air bag didn't come on.

I am *so* tired of this winter. So far, all I can say good about 2003 is that it's not 2002.

whoa there buddy! Sorry to hear about that tree slick you came upon. Glad to hear you came out of it in tact! (assuming of course you were going into it! :-)

Yeah man, 70 big degrees here today! Took a run for the first time in months without having to wear a turtle-neck, 2 sweatshirts, & a wool hat!

Bad year for sugaring. The sap's stopped runnin'.

Hey, there's always Mud Season to look forward too!

Gary, your temperatures sound very similar to ours here in Anchorage, but perhaps a bit cooler. In fact, we set a new high temp record last Friday with a daytime high of 56°, though it was 59° at our home.

Daffodils, crocuses and tulips are poking out of the ground, resident birds are busily building nests, the Canada Geese and Seagulls have returned, buds on trees are bulging, so there's hope.

Oh yeah, our meager snow blanket is long gone.

Ron, a friend of mine who lives in Alaska told me it was another pretty mild Winter up there. Yes? Iceberg traffic getting heavy?

Howdy, CStaret-

Yeah, it was definitely a mild winter where we live in Southcentral Alaska. We had very little snowfall, mild temperatures and goofy, unexpected weather changes on a regular basis.

I don't know about the iceberg situation, since I don't enjoy the luxury of owning a boat or travel much where icebergs occur. I do know that our glaciers are melting, "calving" and receeding at an alarming rate, however. Most of this winter's pack ice in our local waters has melted, along with our urban snow.

Me too, Gary. Sounds like you're living in our neighborhood, bro.

When Patti awoke me this morning she gently said ... the weather forecast last night mentioned the possibility of rain or rain mixed with snow, and it ... snowed. It's only a trace, but ...

At least our forecast is for warmer temps than yours, Gary.
