What's on Your "Most Wanted" List?

What's on your "To Buy" List? What's on your "Desperately Seeking" list?

Personally, when I make a trip to the CD store, I have a 3X5 index card that I am constantly revising that has all the CDs / LPs I am looking for, because often when I walk into Amoeba unprepared, my mind goes blank.

In no particular order:

1. Mal Waldron - The Seagulls of Kristiansund
2. VAO - Nightride of a Lonely Sax Player
3. VAO - Nine Immortal Evergreens
4. Reggie Workman - Summit Conference
5. Jan Allan - 70
6. Barre Phillips - Mountainscapes
7. Edward Vesala - Lumi (why is this disk so hard to find???)
8. Solal - Triangle
9. Solal - Balade du 10 Mars
10. Lacy - We See
11. Koglmann - Schlaff etc
12. Koglmann - A White Line
13. Marilyn Lerner - Birds Are Returning
14. Braxton - Dortmund
15. Braxton - Santa Cruz (never knew this was so good. Mustve been the environs, hint hint)
16. Previte - Empty Suits
17. Henning Orsted Peterson - Those Who Were . . . / Homage / Montmartre (one of)
18. Hemmingway - Marmalade King
19. Hemmingway - Special Detail / Down to the Wire (one of)
20. Stangl - Schnee Live
21. More Herbie Nichols (cant afford the box set)

this is just the jazz list . . . .

I'll send you Summit Conference. PM me your address. I've tried hard for years but at the same time never been compelled to listen to it much. And those fades. . .

My list is too ridiculously large to post here, in many genres of music. The jazz list alone is 5 pages and counting on word (10 pt font).

I have come to accept that I might not be able to meet my needs for music in this lifetime.

Really? What about the other related Workman joint? Cerebral Caverns. I dig both (though haven't listened in a spell) but Caverns is the bomb, imo.

Amoeba! I've never had any difficulty finding stuff to buy there. Normally I order stuff over the internet, but every so often I'll make the trip down to Berkeley. It's sure nice to be able to walk into a store and see all this stuff on the shelves. They don't have a lot of Brötzmann at Borders. At Amoeba I usually just go through the used bins, and usually the only problem I have is trying to decide what to put back in order to keep the cost under control.

And they keep putting out more all the time, the bastards.

Seriously, though, that's the beauty of it. The amount of fascinating music to listen to is effectively infinite.

I think Amoeba is great, but I guess I'm a little disappointed with the selection. The folks who work in the jazz section seem to be really knowledgeable of older stuff, but not so much modern stuff. Compared to, say, Tower, it's an improvement; but compared to DMG (for example), it's kind of a disappointment in that aspect (though DMG is way smaller overall)

Case in point, blank stares when I asked for the Sirone/Bang on Ayler this weekend.

Don't get me wrong, they still got a sh**load of stuff, so even if you don't find what you're specifically looking for, you still go away buying more than you can afford. It's not like I'm unhappy to go ther - just a minor criticism.

I don't have Cerebral Caverns and I'll look for it, but that sparkling lineup of Summit Conference never delivers what it promises to my ears. And those fades. . .

If Larry recommends it, that's good enough for me! I'm ordering a copy right now!

True, but I need to be focused. that's why I have my list. If nothing off my list is there, then I go browsing.

Sonic, you dont have a crib list, like the really really need this list? For jazz?

That Miles at Montreaux box with 20 CDs or whatever it is. I'd really, really like to hear some of that.

"Trip On The Strip" with Sonny Fortune and Stan Hunter. I've never even seen it, much less heard it...

Someday I want to pick up some Ntu Troop stuff, like "Harlem Bush Music" and "Juju Street Songs." The idea of Gary Bartz and Andy Bey together is very appealing. I think those are back in print...

Gotta get my ass in gear and send for a copy of Walter Horn's "Sadhana."

"Cross Country" by guitarist Cal Collins, OOP, as they say in the trade. Nifty solo version of "On The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe." (I posted about this back in February...)

There's loads of Mingus and Ellington I haven't heard, they top my Most Wanted list.

The Harlem Bush Music Bartzes are available as a twofer, Dr. Dave. Great stuff, the tune "Celestial Blues" alone is worth the price of admission!

Mal Waldron-Steve Lacy
"Journey Without End"
RCA/Japan

So, it's a long out of print LP. I'm still looking.
Only that and George W. Bush's head would make me forever happy.
