Your car-appearance obsession is far more obscene and offensive than anything you've ever posted elsewhere.

btw, re: carwashes--what do you think God invented rain for anyway? Sheesh.

My "vehicle" (it loves that name, since its only occasionally deserving) is currently leaking rain into the driver's seat because of clogged sunroof drains. In the last 6 months its been in the shop about a dozen times for about nine different problems ranging from the dangerous (front end wobble, oil in radiator, heats up in 8 seconds, etc.) to the stupid (can't shut off alarm, smells of vomituous socks, etc.).

It will basically be about all the inane and innocuous events that happen in my life. Since most view me with scorn and anger, I thought this would be an interesting look at the boring and pathetic life I really lead.
Scott, we already know you lead a boring and pathetic life (the obviously-saintly Mrs. Dolan and loveable Mr. Pootz excepted). That's why you crave so much attention here. Your method of getting attention is what leads to all the scorn and anger. Oh, and ignore the chip. Jesus.

Not boring here. It's a-rainin' and a-thunderin' like a motherfucker. Impressive display mother nature is putting on for us today.

I've been meaning to ask you, Mone'. When did you pull up stakes in CA and move to Atlanta??

But, to expand on Scott's fixation with his car's appearance. My daughter [the one with an engineering degree] manages a car-wash.[long story].
You would be amazed at how picky some of the regular patrons can be.
She tells me that there are two who insist that she do their detailing and will come back if they happen to be there on her day off.

Also car-related. My other daughter had her stereo and ALL the cds in her car ripped off while her car was parked in a theatre parking lot. Window broken. Like that. She was devastated, because none of the cds were commercial releases. They were compilations which she had spent time making. BUT, she was ticked at me when I suggested that having not taken the little panel off the stereo on her dash when she left the car in the parking lot may have contributed to the break-in.
Like me, she assumes that everybody has been taught, from childhood, that if it's not yours you should leave it where it is.
But the annoying and expensive thing is that because her insurance is $500 deductable, she had to pay to have the damage repaired. Bummer.

Dolan: I should expect as much from someone who has a clean garage. It's the sign of a sick mind. Forget the chip. Every day that passes without its being replaced is like a new lease on life.

JMJ, I'm more concerned about those who have beautiful garages full of junk, to the point where their car has never been inside them.
I still remember my amazement at seeing the the next-door-neighbour's garage was the place where ugly religious ceramics and tons of other mementoes from their sojourns in Mexican border towns congregated to die.
To me garage = car and car-related activity.

Last November. I got a job with a large real estate company that shall remain nameless. They offered to move me out here and my better half was looking towards a career change anyway. She got into law school out here (Georgia State). Not one week after we moved out here, the job got pulled out from under me. I found a (much better) job with a furniture magnate that also shall remain nameless, so all worked out well.

Not always.
Sometimes it's a sign of someone not doing any work around the house. Just like one of my brother in law: He never planted a tree, not even a flower, never shoveled, never fixed a window, a cabinet, cut a baseboard, never painted. No tool needed. His garage is the cleanest I've ever seen. When he vacuum in his house, her doesn't miss the garage and the driveway.

I used to put my car in the garage all the time. My car got so dirty all the time because it never rained or snowed on it.
No the garage is where we put logs for drying ayear before being used. that's where the kid practices his hockey shots. The different cutting wood and paintig works are done. Needless to say there's no car in there now. By the way, storing a car in a garage with winter like we having causes early corrosion.

Moné,

I may have misread your post, but did you just offer to buy me a new house and to furnish it for me, too? Thanks, man.

I may be wrong, but I would think that Mone' is much too busy convincing residents of Atlanta that having only one or two sofas is passe'. He is obviously promoting the idea that every home should have at least half a dozen sofas. People should be able to sit on a sofa, whenever the mood strikes them, wherever they are in a room, without having to exert themselves walking any distance at all.

Up here in Boston, most people have what's now called a "sofa room." Meaning a wall-to-wall sofa set-up. I've almost forgotten what it was like to live without one!

Maybe not from any great desire for great expanses of sofas (bring on the grapes!), but more like a space limitation on the part of area homes built 100 years or so ago. We've got a wall of bookcases, a foldout sofa, and an oversized stuffed chair (comfortable for one parent + kid) in the style of the sofa, and our living room is absolutely stuffed.

Here in California, cars are a big part of our lives.

I keep my pretty blue Acura TL clean and shiny. I do admit that I take it to the carwash. I do that because those guys do a much better job than I can plus I can write it off as a business expense, have a nice cuppa, lite up a puro and visit with the other carwash customers.

I do dust it off regularly.

Vrooooom!

My obssession really isn't as bad as it used to be. My car always looked showroom new. I would spend 4-5 hours on a Saturday washing, drying, rubbing, vaccuuming, applying interior protectant, etc.......

This year, I may have washed my car 3 or 4 four time total. No bullshit. And maybe onlt vacuumed it twice. But he's looking sharp these days, and I really need to keep up with it a little more this year than last or else my paint will start going to shit.

I watched Airline on A&E last night before I went to bed. Does anybody like that show? I really hate these "reality" shows, but for some reason I can't get enough of this one. Well, that and Dog: Bounty Hunter.

I think it would be cool to work in an airport. And I'd love to work at O'Hare so I could spend my days ogling Yolanda:

Mmmmmmmm................

But still I sit here wondering, are those bananas upstairs ripe enough to eat yet? they were still hard as hell yesterday. But I'm really thinking about grooving on a mean ass peanut butter and banana sandwich for breakfast.

Love "Airline"!!!! Can't get with "Dog, The Bounty Hunter" though.

Re your bananas. If they have dots on the skin, they are ripe enough for your sandwich. If they have no dots, they are not. Worse, if they still are green at the stem end, leave them in the fruit bowl for another day or so. I say this as one who has a toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich and a sectioned orange for breakfast almost every day. Patience with bananas is essential.

And even though the skins turn black, they'll keep in the fridge for several days.

I don't keep them if the skins are actually black. However, when they are covered with dots, I peel them and plastic-bag them and freeze them. Then, I use them in smoothies.
The procedure is:
1 or 2 frozen whole bananas, chopped into chunks
fresh fruit in chunks, of your choice [papaya, mango, strawberries etc.] about 1/2 cup.
A couple of squirts of liquid honey
Enough filtered water for the smoothie to process.

I always buy too many bananas when they are on sale and have been freezing the excess when they become too ripe for years.
There used to be a law that made it illegal to put bananas in the fridge. I assume that it has been repealed. But, I keep them at room temp until I freeze the leftovers.

I make banana bread with them before they actually turn black. Too often black-skinned bananas can almost be poured out of their skins. That's too ripe, IMO. Banana bread is best made with very ripe bananas, but I would hesitate to use really black ones.

patricia, we're nearly kindred spirits on this subject. I love bananas when they have lots of black speckles. Any green and I reflexively just drop them. I make a smoothie very similar to yours. Mine takes two bananas, a cup of chopped strawberries and orange juice. Freeze the bananas whole in a freezer bag and do the same with the strawberries except chop them before freezing. Then, put the fruit in the blender, add the orange juice and blend. No ice or water added, none needed.

Oh yeah, smoothies!

I have a coupla blackish naners in the fridge as we speak along with some spectacular pineapple. Into the blender with the juice of a lime and zippo - pure numliness.

Maybe this evening I have some over the rocks with a dollop of Bacardi Solera.

Spots on your bananas are cause for rejoicing!!!! For the next few days you can eat them in sandwiches and make other fresh banana stuff with them. Then, if you have some left, peel them and freeze them whole, in large zip-lock bags, lying them carefully on a flat place in the freezer until they are totally frozen. They will turn dark but that doesn't matter for smoothies. Just chunk a couple and use them, instead of ice. I never use all frozen fruit in smoothies. The texture seems to be better if the other half of the fruit is fresh.

I would be remiss if I did not recount my accidental discovery of a rather delicious combination, although I would measure the rum more accurately next time, to avoid a repeat of the total blottoness of this humble scribe.

The recipe:
two very ripe bananas
1/2 cup of very strong coffee
shaved ice
two or three squirts of liquid honey
ONE jigger of Bacardi's Coconut-flavoured rum
Throw the whole works into the blender and run till smooth and creamy.

WARNING!!! Measure the rum. I didn't and probably put in a good 1/4 cup or so. I still don't have an actual jigger.
I was watching "Memento" at the same time as I was drinking it. If you thought the plot was hard to follow, to me it was totally incomprehensible.l

It's actually much more environmentally friendly to visit a car wash than to do it in your driveway.

Though not appropriate for the aforementioned smoothies or making banana bread, I won't eat a fresh banana unless it's a little bit underripe. I can't bear the sweet smooshiness or surprise translucent brown mutilations and those clingy stringy things...ick. If you have a fully ripe banana there is just no avoiding brown demarcations at the butt.
