I'd put myself and Sisco at the top of the list.

I think it's cool how my mom and/or dad are tied with Lauren Bacall and Dick Cheney for first place.

This is a really crappy poll. Whoever thought up this poll ought to be flogged. Flogged and placed upon the rack. If it were up to me, polls like this one would be banned by Federal law. RBS, what the hell were you thinking? You have Frank Sinatra up there and he's dead, for crying out loud. And I don't even know why Lauren Bacall is up there. Is she famously cranky? Why wasn't I informed of this sooner! Hey, you know what, YOU'RE FIRED! Hey--come back here while I heap more personal abuse on you! HOW DARE YOU DUCK WHILE I'M THROWING MY SHOE AT YOU!

Many moons ago, I was eating in a small NYC restaurant when I spotted Lauren Bacall. About an hour later, I very quietly said " I admire your work", which I do. Her reply?? "Fuck off." Cranky??

Ha! First of all, to cover everyone's questions as to why Barry Bonds, Bill O' Reilly and whoever else isn't on the poll, I thought I covered that question with "Other (Please explain.)"

As for Lauren Bacall, I was once waiting outside a stage door after a play with Gene Hackman so I could catch a glimpse of him. From behind me, I hear, "No one's fucking stopping me from getting in that motherfucking door! I'm getting in that motherfucking door!" It's Lauren Bacall.

Then, she growled at me like a pit bull. "Grrrr. Grrrr." I'm not kidding, either. Someone should throw that old bag a bone.

Ms Bacall can be as cranky as she wants to be.

What's wrong with cranky, anyway? It's people who aren't cranky who trouble me.

My problem with RBS's poll, besides it being necessarily stunted and predictably over-representative of rightwing cranks versus their far more numerous and flagrant (these days) leftist counterparts, is the mistake of including Karl Rove.

Karl Rove??

Karl Rove is not now nor has he ever been a member of the cranky party. In fact, I posit that no American pol has been happier day-to-day in the past twenty-five years than our Karl. He has seen success after success after success. And he never hides his joyous ebullience about it. If you want cranky, go find Bob Shrum.

With all due respect, Monte, miserable does not equal cranky.

OK, Goodster. Victory in elections in 1994, 1998, 2000, and 2004 do not a cranky political operative make. Karl Rove always looks pretty darn happy. If a little shopworn.
