James Carter at Newport Jazz Festival

I just watched James Carter fronting the Lincoln Center Big Band live at The Newport jazz festival on PBS TV. I heard continuos special effects and inflections but was struck by what I felt was a serious lack of sophistaced melodic phrases and content. Is it just me or does anybody else have a similar take on Carter?

I think if you plug "Bye-ya" & "James Carter" in the search engine you'll get all the anti-Carter sentiment you can handle....

Followed closely by "Let the horse go" & "James Carter".

I've seen James Carter a couple of times live and enjoyed his music a lot but I can understand why others are not buying into his thing........
