Did Anyone See the Show on Milt Hinton Last Night?

It was on Independent Lens at 10:00 last night (ET) on PBS. I wish I had known about it before so I could have posted about it here. At any rate, I saw it and it was great! It went over Milt's life, which was fascinating ! Of course, over the course of the hour they showed many of the photos he took of musicians hanging out and people he saw in his travels. There is a very poignant section on Biliie Holiday's last recording section and the still photos Milt took of her. It was heartbreaking. This show will probably be repeated, so I highly recommend checking your local PBS stations so you can see it! Independent Lens was also the show that first ran the Jimmy Scott film. It's a great series.

I think I saw that last summer, at the jazz camp I went to. The people who made it brought it to show us.

I can't wait! Unfortunately, the Hinton documentary won't be on WGBH in Boston 'til around April 13, verrrrry early in the morning. I'll, of course, have my VCR running while I'm sleeping!

I'm psyched. This documentary was featured on today's "Sunday Morning Edition" on NPR. The piece said the film will air on many PBS stations Tuesday night. I'm psyched! Tuesday's my one night off this week, too.

The documentary was beautiful - had me in tears this morning. How lucky we are that Milt Hinton documented so many priceless moments with his camera and what a joy as a musician and person.

It was aired at 5 a.m. today and I think it will be aired again at 4 a.m. Sunday. Very strange that, to the best of my knowledge, it won't be aired during the day or during prime time on PBS/Boston.

I did get to see most of it on the KQED Encore channel this morning and it was a very interesting documentary from what I saw (I missed the first 15 minutes of it). I am hoping that either KCSM or KTEH will air this in the future.

From the producers of this great (1 hr.) film:

"At this point, a DVD of Keeping Time is not available. We are, however,
talking to a large DVD producer about handling the project. If we're able to
do it, we'll announce it at www.MiltHinton.com

You can check future broadcasts of Keeping Time by logging onto
www.pbs.org/independentlens/keepingtime. Go to schedule and type in your zip code. You can also rate Keeping Time at the same website.

If your local station isn't planning to broadcast, you might encourage them
to air it."

It will air in Chicago Channel 11 at 1am on Monday, 18 April.

It was an excellent show. I hops they show it again on one of our local PBS stations so I can burn it on dvd.

Last night one of the stations (we have five on our satellite system) showed the American masters on Quincy Jones.

Regardless of what you think of some of his work, the guy has been a very big force on the music scene. I though it was a good overview of his career.

I think I'll play "Walking in Space Tonite."
