Your Song, Literally?

Curious... anyone here ever have a tune (or tunes) written, arranged, recorded, or performed in their honor?

I could see Cantiello struttin' to the strains of "Jimmy Mack", though.

I helped a friend write a song dedicated to his fiance, which we performed at his wedding. I wrote the music, which was lightly jazzy and not bad, IMHO. Unfortunately, I had to work with my buddy's sappy lyrics, so I'm not claiming it was a masterpiece. However, I'm sure his wife-to-be was very touched by it.

In the original post I almost added, "If not, feel free to digress into, 'No, but...'", but I somehow knew that that kind of provocation wouldn't be necessary --

Oh sorry. Yes, a friend of mine wrote a tune called "jazzy mary". If you google jazzy mary that's the first thing that will come up, usually. The friend is Hill Greene and the song is on one of his albums. They played it constantly in Japan and people would want my autograph because "oh, you are jazzy mary" (How dumb is that?) Beyond that, cats have played songs for me because I asked them too or it was a song we had talked about etc. Too numerous to enumerate. Sometimes it was to "impress" me--usually just because we had talked about a song. It doesn't mean all that much, actually. Anthony Wonsey was supposed to write a song called "Dear Mary" but I don't think he ever did and now we've lost touch. That's too bad, because I think he's a great pianist and composer.

no, but I've sure written a lot for other people!

Off the top of my head...

The Man With The Horn (for Frank Rehak)
Pamela
Phoebe's Dance
Dog Beach (for Duffy)
Time Heals All Wounds (for lauren)
Too Sad To Be Around (for Aimoku)
Sarah

I've just realized that there must be dozens of these kinds of titles! But my favorite is an instrumental tune called...

Prisoner of Glenda

Michael Moore, Lindsey Horner & Michael Vatcher (Jewels & Binoculars) dedicated "One More Cup Of Coffee" and (another one I forget, but have recorded) to me for what I thought might've been the last show I would present in Vancouver. I was practically in tears already and thought the gesture was quite touching. I would've thought "I Pity The Poor Immigrant" would've been the obvious choice, but...

[LAUGH] I immediately connected that with Mr. T (of... whatever that show was) which makes it even funnier for some reason!

Thanks JM. That's a cute story. Now where are all those salacious stories you promised us about 4 months ago??! (Yow, it's been a loonnng day!)

My cousin's punk band came through MN last year. He was shocked to see us at the show, so he dedicated a song to us. I'm not big on punk, but it was a really nice gesture.

A very old friend who is a bass player came to visit me in the UK - he is from Philly. He insisted we went "shopping" in Manchester and demanded a visit to a very large old musical instrument shop..I obliged..whereupon he found a double bass and played me a tune- called "For Debbie" (me!)

It more than made up for the £260 telephone bill he ran up whilst visiting I was thrilled!

hmmm, salacious stories? I'd best keep them to myself. After my father dies, Leon Thomas sang "Song for my Father" for me at a gig.
