Washington Choral Ensemble is a 35-voice chamber chorus that is highly regarded for its performances of works by 20th century composers. The chorus was founded in 1983 as the Capitol Hill Choral Society and renamed in 2001, when it moved to its new home at Holy Trinity Church in Georgetown. Last season, WCE's unusual chamber performance of Handel's Messiah earned praise from The Washington Post for its "engaging intimacy" and its "lithe tone and satisfying blend." Last spring, The Post's Tim Page praised WCE's performance of Durufle's Requiem as "deft, proportionate and deeply felt."
