Montreaux JAZZ Festival

I'm aware of the typo in Montreux, but couldn't edit it....

WHOOIE!!!!

Rock stars headline jazz festival

Rock legends Alice Cooper, Brian Wilson and Elvis Costello will be among the stars at this year's Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July.

In a line-up also heavy on pop, R&B, soul and blues, 79-year-old pianist Oscar Peterson is the biggest name from the jazz world.

Other rock gigs at the 16-day festival will include Garbage, Velvet Revolver, Kasabian and Queens of the Stone Age.

R&B stars Lauryn Hill and Craig David will also be at the 39th annual event.

"The jazz festival hasn't been a jazz festival for many, many years," a spokeswoman said. "It covers a very, very broad musical spectrum."

There will be a blues night featuring BB King and Solomon Burke, plus a tribute to the Stax soul label with Isaac Hayes and Booker T & The MGs.

The Corrs, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Ibrahim Ferrer, Kraftwerk, Tori Amos and Lisa Stansfield are among the other names on the eclectic bill.

I wonder why they continue to call it a "jazz" festival. Why not just call it a "music" festival?

The one time I went to the Montreux "Jazz" Festival I saw Baaba Maal & Ernest Ranglin.

I thought it might be nice if Alice Cooper either did standards, OR better yet, big band jazz arrangements of his hits. I'd love to hear a 'swingin' version of "I'm Eighteen" or ""School's Out"

... or how 'bout CS&N doing an "out" version of "Carry On"?
