NPR ATC Series on older jazz musicians

it's running at the end of the 5pm hour (EST) NOW... Sounds really good... Looks like it is a series... Wonder if they will talk about Jazz Foundation of America...

Frank Foster's profile was on yesterday. His situation is this: he had a stroke and can no longer perform (left hand disabled). He's living off Social Security and some kid of "pension" for older musicians. Of course it's not enough to cover his expenses.

that's what the series is about. The problems of older, retired jazz musicians with no, or little income.

As a human being and a jazz fan my heart goes out to these guys and gals. But you know, they're facing the same problems as millions of other Americans.

I know, I heard today's (Tuesday's) session. I think it wraps up tommorrow. The situation these guys are in just s*cks. I'm not gonna go off on a political tangent... BUT..... to have a nation as wealthy as this... and have homelessness, sick and old artists... people who have helped frame this nation's cultural scheme.... treated this way stinks..

Listening to the story makes me realize I have to start contributing again to the Jazz Foundation of America.... (We KNOW the answer AIN'T coming from Washington D.C.)!
