Students need help!

Hi, we're Carly and Eli, two high school juniors in need of assistance. We're doing a project on the Harlem Renaissance for our American Literature English class, and we chose to do Bessie Smith. The only problem is, we're having a really hard time finding quality online biographies on the singer. If you have any websites that you know of to be of good quality & length, please respond to this thread with a link.

Thanks a ton!

Books still work very well, and Chris Albertson, who used to post here, wrote the definitive biography. Sometimes online is NOT the answer. Good luck with your project.

ChrisA hangs out at Organissimo under the name Christien.

I'm sure he could help you.

The father of western swing, Bob Wills, walked 20 miles as a young man to hear Bessie sing.

Whatever you do, don't fail to listen to her music! There's a fine single volume compilation entitled The Collection. "I ain't loved but three men in my life/ My father, my brother, and the man who wrecked my life."
