Jimmy Woode - R.I.P.

Jimmy Woode (1928-2005)

After NHOP another great bassplayer passed away...
Jimmy died last Friday, April 22, in New Jersey.

(For years he lived in Europe, i.a. in the Netherlands.)

Very sad to hear this. I last heard (and had the pleasure of meeting) Jimmy Woode in Boston when he was performing with his daughter, vocalist Shawnn Monteiro. In fact, a "Live at Sculler's" CD is available from that gig w/Clark Terry, Jimmy Cobb and John Harrison.

R.I.P.

RIP Mr. Woode!

Had the pleasure to hear you quite frequently in Zurich in the 80ies and once to share a couple of drinks and a chat with you at a bar.

Very sad indeed. Definitely one of so many unsung heros of the music. There's a live Charlie Parker record with him on it. It's a very interesting recording of later Bird, on a day when he was playing great. Woode is swinging on that one.
