SF Bay: Musicians Needed for Multi-Arts Performance

The Awakening is the first in a series of multi-arts performance pieces combining live music, spoken word, and films of visual art into a single dynamic performance piece (a short clip can be found on the symphony page of www.tysonarts.com). This piece has two performance dates already set for May 28 and June 3 (both Saturdays) with the possibility of more performances on the way. The first performances are in conjunction with two great events called the shelter exhibition (www.shelterexhibition.com), taking place at the Million Fishes Art Collective (www.millionfishes.com), and the Mission Arts and Performance Project (info also on www.tysonarts.com).

If you’re interested in performing in this piece please email firebrandart@yahoo.com describing what role you are interested in filling along with any material (a description of experience, performance resume, recordings, or anything else) pertinent to what makes you a good fit.

Ensemble positions for this piece include:

Musicians:

Alto Sax
Baritone Sax
2 Trumpets
Trombone
Violin I
Violin II
Viola
Cello
Double Bass / Upright Bass
Soprano
Alto
Tenor/Baritone
Bass

5 spoken word artists

1 film operator

1 stage manager

Later performances in the series will also include:
Guitar
Hand Drum / Percussion
Didgeridoo
Drum Set
And other possible roles

Ideal musicians are strong in reading music, as well as improvising, and have experience in or can adapt to many different musical styles (some ensemble roles are more classically based requiring stronger reading abilities while others are more jazz and world music oriented involving improvisation). Groups of musicians who fit a couple of roles and who already play / have played well together are strongly desired (i.e. a vocal quartet, string quartet, horn section, rhythm section, etc.) but individual musician applicants will all be seriously considered.

Spoken word artists should be able to project well un-amplified over music and have a strong musical and rhythmic sense. Backgrounds in acting, singing, or emceeing can be of benefit but are not necessary.

The film will be timed with the performance so any prior experience operating film that relates is helpful.
