Jazz Piano Summit series

JAZZ FORUM ARTS LAUNCHES NEW CONCERT SERIES WITH
DICK HYMAN AND DAVE FRISHBERG JAZZ PIANO SUMMIT

Boasting a spectacular view of Central Park, The Allen Room at Frederick P. Rose Hall -- the new home of Jazz at Lincoln Center at Broadway at 60th Street-- will be the site of the Jazz Piano Summit featuring two legends of the keyboard, Dick Hyman and Dave Frishberg, performing on Two Steinway Grand Pianos. This rare event on Sunday, May 22, 2005, with shows at 7:30 and 9:30 pm, kicks off a new series of concerts presented by Jazz Forum Arts. Performing with Dick Hyman and Dave Frishberg will be Jay Leonhart on bass and Mickey Roker on drums.

The concert is the first in a new series of "Two Steinways, bass and drums" events produced by Jazz Forum Arts Executive Director Mark Morganelli and presented by Jazz Forum Arts at Frederick P. Rose Hall, in its inaugural season as the new home of Jazz at Lincoln Center at Broadway at 60th Street. The original series began in May 1981 at Morganelli's second Jazz Forum loft/club, at Broadway and Bleecker Street, with Tommy Flanagan and Barry Harris performing on Two Steinways, with Art Davis on bass and Leroy Williams on drums.

"I think of our new series in The Allen Room as a homecoming celebration for me and Jazz Forum Arts," said Morganelli. "It was 25 years ago that I started the Jazz Forum in Greenwich Village and 20 years ago that we began Jazz Forum Arts to present the Riverside Park Arts Festival. It's no small coincidence that we've landed in Wynton Marsalis's Jazz at Lincoln Center digs, as he, along with Dizzy Gillespie, was a founding board member of Jazz Forum Arts. I'm especially excited to be collaborating with Wynton and everyone at Jazz at Lincoln Center."
