Cool Spots for the Hot Summer" - a discussion and preview of Jazz Festivals. We'll be discussing audience reach: dependency on tourists and local audience, advertising, promotion, publicity, profit and non-profit, how one decides on the schedule, how to cover a festival as a journalist and photographer, etc.
On the panel will be:
Patricia Nicholson Parker - Organizer of the Vision Jazz Festival, founder of Arts for Art: cross disciplinary presentions of dance and music
Jim Luce - Presenter and organizer of Caramoor Jazz as well as producer of several award winning radio programs
Mark Morganelli - Executive Director of Jazz Forum Arts, which has presented concerts throughout Westchester and now expanding into presenting at JALC
Vita Muir - Founder of the Litchfield Jazz Festival and Summer Camp which is celebrating it's 10th anniversary this Summer
Rick White - Senior Producer for Festival Productions working on festivals including NY, New Orleans, Paris and Berlin. He is also on staff at Columbia Univ. Jazz Studies
Thomas Bellino - Organizer of the Kingston Jazz Festival and founder of Planet Arts; a not-for profit company dedicated to working with artists on projects that impact both artists and the community including the Grammy winning Vanguard Jazz Orchestra
Tad Hendickson - Journalist for Time Out and Amazon and programmer of jazz radio on AOL. Tad will be covering the Syracuse Jazz Fest this summer, and also leading a panel at Syracuse on the art of the interview
Enid Farber - JJA Photographer of the Year who has covered numerous jazz festivals
