Antti Rissanen jazz trombone competition for the first time in Finland

Kotka Jazz Society is organizing the 1st International "Antti Rissanen" Jazz Trombone Competition in Kotka at Jazz by the Sea Festival on 28.-29. July 2005. The location will be the house of Höyrypanimo and Restaurant Kairo in the city of Kotka, Finland.

The competition is meant to celebrate young talented jazztrombonists who deserve a wider recognition. The competition is open for slide
trombonists born in 1975 or after from all countries.

The competition is attended by sending the registration materials to the secretary of the competition by the deadline of 16th June. Competition

Born in Kotka, Antti Rissanen is a multitalented jazz trombonist who has in recent years created a mature international career as a jazz trombone
soloist. He has won a plenty of international competitions and performed in 25 contries. At the moment he works with multiple orchestras and
tours around the globe as a soloist and conductor for big bands.

RULES OF THE ANTTI RISSANEN JAZZ TROMBONE COMPETITION

1. The Antti Rissanen Jazz Trombone Competition is arranged by Kotka Jazz ry. The competition is held on 28-29 July 2005 in Kotka, location
Höyrypanimo Ballroom, address Metsontie 41, FIN 48220 Kotka. The competition is open to slide trombonists of all nationalities born in 1975 or after that.

2. The competition is held every second year.

3. A written application must be sent to the competition secretary by 16 June 2005. Arrival date is determined by post stamp. Late entries can be accepted only by decision of the jury. 4. The signed application must include the following:
- Your contact information (name, address, telephone number, e-mail address)
- Copy of passport or some other official identification documentation
- CV (Curriculum Vitae)
- Two photos
- A C cassette, minidisc or CD recording (not studio level required) of Autumn Leaves (Kosma) and one piece of your own choice.

Maximum length of the recording is 12 minutes. The recording must include the following: names of pieces and musicians, time and place of
recording. The tunes can be performed as a solo or with accompaniment of a play along or a live rhythm section.

5. Maximum number of competitors is 12. In case of more than 12 entrants, the jury decides qualification based on received registrations
and recordings. Entrants will receive written note of their qualification by 30 June 2005.

6. Travel and accommodation costs to be paid by the competitors. The competition location has meal facility. For accomodation possibilities,
please, contact secretary of competition, Mr Marko Kuusela. (See contact information in the end.)

7. Performance order is decided by allotment on 28 July 2005 at 10.00 in the Höyrypanimo Ballroom. All competitors must be personally present or
represented by another person with a proxy. Performance order is the same through the whole competition.

8. The competition is in two parts; preliminary and final, which both are public. Competitors are accompanied by a piano trio (piano, bass and
drums). Before each part of the competition, competitors will have a chance to practice with the trio for 45 minutes. Practice order is the
same as competition order. Competitors can be accompanied by their own musicians, but in this case costs are to be paid by the competitor.

9. Preliminary
Compulsory tune to be played in the preliminary competition is Autumn Leaves. Other two tunes (of which one should be a ballad) can be
selected by the competitor. Maximum length of performance is 15 minutes.

10. Final. A maximum of 4 competitors will make the final. A compulsory tune to be played in the final is Wondering (Rissanen), other tunes
selected by competitor. Maximum length of final performance is 20 minutes. Music chart of Wondering will be sent by 30 June 2005 together
with qualification approval to all participants.

11. Jury members are: Antti Rissanen, Pekka Leander, Markku Veijonsuo and Risto Pellava.

12. Prizes. 1st prize 1000? and Miraphone Jazz Trombone, 2nd prize 500? and 3rd prize 250?. Jury withholds the right to change amount and number of prizes. Winners are published and prizes given in the Friday Night Jazz Event (29th of July) starting at 20.00 at Restaurant Kairo.

13. The winner cannot participate in the next competition to be held in two years time.

14. Competition organisation has an unlimited right to broadcast, record, video record, televise (not for commercial use), photograph or film competition performances without any compensation.

15. These rules are originally in Finnish. Any disputes will be resolved by the jury and based on the rules in Finnish.
