John Stubblefield - Blessed News Update

I received this from Katherine over the weekend

Hello all,

Thank you for all your good thoughts, your phone calls, your visits.........

As you know, John has been suffering a long time. Since over a week he has become even more quiet. Our hearts are full of love for John. It was very hard for me to leave the hospital to spend these two days in beautiful Vermont. John is not alone. His sister, Joyce is with him.

There, with John, I play music for him, including the recording by Godon Hellegers, who plays the kora. Thank you Dale. It is beautiful. In the evening I play evening ragas, and the room is filled with calm. Friends have brought John their music and also dvds of great musicians. We were watching a few of Miles Davis on the 26th May, Miles' birthday. John will open his eyes and quietly watch. He has little energy for speaking.

John smiles and the room is full of sunshine.

On Monday, 23rd May, Pastor Lind of St. Peter's church came to bless John. Rolando was there, playing flute. Joyce, John's sister was there. John then wanted to phone my mother. He spoke to her with much energy: "Will you give me permission to take your daughter's hand in marriage?" My mother was certainly surprised. We, in the room with John, were in a state of shock. It was completely spontaneous. John knows how to compose, perform and give us a solo that will take our breath away. Pastor Lind married us. John wanted strawberry wedding cake. We ended up eating cakeless strawberry wedding cake. It was all very sweet.

This is SO beautiful! Congratulations to John and Katherine. God is obviously blessing this special union. Because John is so special, I know he has chosen an extraordinary woman to be his mate.

Blessings to both of you.

I am touched reading this, I sent Mr. Stubblefield a card weeks ago at the address Valerie provided. Tremendously emotional horn player, & by the testimony of friends & associates, great character.
