I gave this perspective some thought last week and got even more uncomfortable about the news environment we have today.
Take for instance the spin on the latest report from Guantanamo. The White House slams the media for covering the news rather than slamming the Defense Department for allowing it to happen. What's black now seems to be white.

Well....when voters let their skewed view of reality overtake the only logical way to vote, this is all we can expect.
I'd like the pollsters to run a poll on how many family values and honest political dealings have returned since the re-election of President Pinhead, er, President WMD.
[my bad]
Hey, I guess if you vote for an image, that's what yer gonna get. Right? All look, no substance.
Blinders, 50s sitcoms and wool over one's eyes on sale in the lobby as you leave the theatre of the absurd.

What else would you expect? As the Department of Defense is a cabinet level department, which is to say an administrative department subsidiary to the chief executive, it strikes me that it is the job of the White House to defend the actions of its subsidiary and subordinant parts. It would make no logical sense for the White House to criticize the Department of Defense, which presumably is carrying out policy with which the President approves, even if he is unaware of every jot and tittle. It seems to me naive to think otherwise.

Benito was killed before he was strung up. According to tradition, his last words were a plea to the partisans not to fuck up. "Shoot me in the chest," he is alleged to have said. Very dodgy record on that, though.

That's a trick question: his scrotum was stuffed in his mouth. A not particularly attractive scrotum, either (apologies to Scrotum Boy).

I will suggest to you he needed shooting in the chest.

Gee wiz, Monte.
A little uptight tonight?
I'm seriously hoping President WMD can come up with a moral plan to free our country of those big bad Liberal liars.
Oh yeah.

You must admit that the Saturday release of the information was curiously timed to miss the peak press days as usual.
No so much naive as it is disappointed with the immorality of the Administration. I mean they are reported to be a bunch of biblle huggers are they not. So why the total disrespect for other people's religions?
Yellow Journalism is alive and well right here in the US of A.

Hey, remember when Bush said our troops in Iraq ought to have armored Humvees? It was like he had nothing to do with it. Just a spectator. He can do the same thing with Guantanamo. "Gee, that's terrible!" And go back to his exercise bicycle. Mission accomplished.

Most of the time I get the impression that President Bush is no more informed than a child and is depending on his associates to do all the heavy lifting.
Of course, this may work in his favour when the shit hits the fan after this whole fiasco is over, if it ever is. He will be able to truthfully say that he had no idea that all the allegations which have been detailed in the foreign press, if not in yours, were in fact true. I actually think that when the smoke clears, the situation will be far worse than anyone imagined. But, by then, George W. Bush and his clown car will be safely out of office and the bruhaha will be mostly impotent flailing and helplessly shaking fists at the sky.
I used to think that Bush was stupid and naive. Now I think that like all psychopaths, he has a cunning that will be evident when we see this from an historical perspective, years from now, when many more are dead who needn't have been.
