Er, the point of the post is that Jehova didn't mash up Sodom for its sexual habits but for social practices of which he apparently very much disapproved, but which are standard issue practice for today's Republican Party. American fundamentalists like to choose to ignore any of the social teachings in the Bible, even as they continue to insist that the whole deal is a direct revelation that is to be taken literally.
In other words, they don't take it literally at all nor do they embrace its teachings. They've made up their own religion, as all religionists do. When it comes time to oppress or berate another, they turn to scripture. When it comes time for self-examination, they forget all about it.
Which is one of the reasons why I don't take people seriously who profess these kinds of belief systems in the 21st century. Get over it, already. I don't believe that people actually believe a lot of the crap that they spew.
On the other hand, their continual ignoring of what they insist is the word of "God" (despite all literary and historical evidence to the contrary) might help explain the stress on the god *fearing* part of things. They ought to fear "Him," given the way that they live their lives.
(Incidentally, if God is a He or a She, there must be a sexual mate for Him or Her somewhere; otherwise, why a gender at all? Why not God as an It?)
