Dewey Terry - RIP

Dewey Terry age 65 died last week in LA--he was the writer of classic blues and rock --Im leavin it all up to you --Big Boy Pete --farmer John --and many more ---He was a member of the Squires --then don and dewey with the finest jazz violin --Don Sugarcane Harris --who died in 1999----I had the pleasure of playing with both these fellows and working on productions for 35 years--------They started on specialty records --toured with Little Richard and Jimi hendrix --Johnny otis and Shuggie ---Harvey Mandel---Pure food and drug act and many mps german recordings featuring the red hot violin of Don---------I will miss them forever and their impact on music ----Rob Kunkel---may 2003 Cal.----they were also a amazing funny comedy act --just on any day---their Humor --directions in blues and jazz---knowledge and talent are worth exploing for any unfamiliar---both have websites.

Hi, rob! It's lurkerista from the TCB board. Here I'm bluenoter (and my real name is Rita). Good to see you here (but I'm sorry that the news is what it is). (Gary Wilkens is a member of this board too, but he hasn't posted since posting some jazz poems a while back.)

Anyway, I don't know Dewey Terry's work at all (I live in a cave), but R.I.P.

Sure do, Rita! You never heard the classic "I'm Leavin' It All Up To You"? Wow. That's been "covered" by more than a few, too.

Here's a link to a Fantasy Records album, recorded between 1957-64.

Dewey was the "real deal", and versatile, too! He and Don "Sugarcane" Harris (wonderful blues violinist) were a "natural" combination of talent(s).

thanks to alaska for posting about Dewey ---yes he and Don were as real as it gets in the world of art --creativity and music ---they suffered hard and good times----even Jean luc ponty years ago on the tonight show said Sugarcane was his mentor----you are very much in the know to be aware of these talented men.---Rob Kunkel

Rob, thanks for your kind words. It was my pleasure to "know" each of these unsung heroes, in part because I'm also a musician, and was involved with jazz radio in the 70's-80's.
