Dave Brubeck- Just You, Just Me

In my opinion, a very good CD. Dave is a very good solo pianist (at least I think so), it is a pity he has not done more solo albums. When he is playing solo you can appreciate how comlicated yet beautiful his playing can be.

The title track, Just You, Just Me, is a jaunty, swinging opening piece that is a good start to the album. I actually prefer the version of "Strange Meadowlark" on this CD over the original Quartet piece. "Variations on Brother, Can you Spare a Dime" is quiet and mediative. Dave says in the liner notes that this song has special significance for him as he grew up in the Great Depression. "Music, Maestro, Please" is another high point. Finally, the CD ends with "More Than You Know," again, a very nice piece, gently swinging.

And that's what i think.

Don't be discouraged, Theo. That's the way it goes sometimes. Maybe the thread will get responses eventually; sometimes it takes a while. But it may be that there aren't Dave Brubeck fans--or detractors--among the people who generally read the Record Reviews forum and post in it.

I just happen to be reading this by chance. I haven't heard a Dave Brubeck album since hearing Time Out when it was first released, and I have nothing to contribute.

Theo-

As I suspected, there are many of us who don't own this album or have never even heard of it. That's a substantial problem, in and of itself! Even diehard Brubeck fans may be stifled.
