Stop Here and Say Hello First
I thought we had this thread going somewhere, but perhaps it wasn't a sticky....we have a lot of old friends and then alot of folks who we hope will soon become old friends. Could everyone stop in here and just introduce themselves (please no images in this area - let's make it quick loading)
sort of like friends of JC... (especially since this board can be addicting)
So I'm Lois Gilbert, I run jazzcorner.com and to give you a brief history: our old board was bursting at the seams (you can peruse it under archives), so we launched the new speakeasy on March 31 (didn't want to do it on April Fool's Day) and now we have the most posts of any jazz board on the internet. We welcome you all -- especially Blue Note Board refugees and please visit the sites on jazzcorner.com (more than 150 musicians and organizations) they are the folks that keep this board running
Peace and blessings to you all
Lois

LOL!
Ditto for me. Every week I swear I will stop buying more and simply enjoy what I have, but no. Along comes another titillating description from someone here, and bang, another CD (or 2 or 3).

Hi, I'm Patricia. Yes, that's my real name. I loved the old board and made many friends there. I enjoy the back and forth that goes on, though sometimes it gets pretty intense although there is no real bloodshed.
My taste in music is fairly eclectic, although I lean heavily toward jazz, of course. My other music love is flemenco.
The new board is very effective and gets better all the time. I'm happy to see many of my old friends here and to see lots of new posters, some of whom I remember from the old BlueNote board.

No, I've never heard Dominguez play, but that may be because I listen to mostly guitar, [Fabio Armani, Miguel Fernandez, and Canadians, Liona Boyd and Jesse Cook are favourites], rather than piano.
What would you recommend I listen to first? The idea of playing flamenco on the piano intrugues me.

Hi, I'm Jason. I'm a copywriter and all-around music lover, as well-versed in Joni Mitchell as in Black Sabbath, loving Miles Davis from the 40s to the early 70s, and my favorite "new" jazz musician is Don Byron. The moniker applies to my favorite progressive group, but hopefully reflects who I am as well.

Hi.
My name is TimMc and I am a Jazz/CD-aholic.
[everybody: HI, TIM!!!]
I confess that my life has become ruled by an obsessive need to buy, listen to and learn about Jazz and/or music in general.
It's all Lois's fault and I blame her.

Hello. I'm jazzredcat and I'm "addicted" to jazz; and I have no intention of recovering.
This new board is much snazzier than the old one.
I enjoy lurking, more than posting because I rarely have anything new to contribute. And, if any of my posts sound like trolls, I apologize/tuff crap ahead of time.

Hello
Your forum looks great!
Thanks to my older brother, I grew up on Buddy Rich and Count Basie...I thought EVERY kid my age knocked things off the wall by blasting the Count or Duke!...I ended getting deeper and deeper into it on my own and now have a deep love for many styles of jazz. This seems to be the first TRULY active jazz forum I've visited. I look forward to meeting you all.

Hi, my name is Scott and I'm misunderstood. I'm a very shy fellow who avoids confrontation at all costs. My overly timid nature usually results in me getting walked on by others. My strength is the fact that I'm almost always right, my weakness is that nobody else seems to understand that. I try and contribute nothing but positive postings, but they often get twisted by others making me look like a bad, bad person. Because my genius is completely misunderstood, I often end up at the top of someones hit list and quite often find myself on the receiving ends of profanity laced diatribes from other meaner, nastier posters than I.
But I hope that I can continue to be a guiding light in these troubling times, and look foward to even more light-hearted discussion.

Hello! My name is Jon, my screen name is derived from a Mekons song. I love lots of jazz, from the Duke, Fletcher Henderson, and Jelly Roll to William Parker and TEST, and lots in between. I'm a graduate student. I grew up on punk, writing for various fanzines. I'm beginning to try to write about creative music, though I haven't considered trying to get anything published in magazines or journals yet. I'm still trying to learn all I can by listening, reading, interviewing... and more listening!
This seems like a great board, and I'm really excited to become familiar with all of you, and to learn all I can (and offer what little I know...).

Hi. This is jazzwriter. I kept up with the old board for a little while as scotpgot. Lost track when things started to get real busy. I'll try to keep up with this one though as best I can.
P.S. I'm graduated with a Music Business degree and in the NYC area if anyone's looking for a hard-working employee!

Hello, coltrane here in Los Angeles. I've been popping in and out since the old Jazz Central Station / Jazz Online days. I am a big time Jazz and old school soul/R&B lover who has collected over 3000 CD's over the past 16 years. (yeah, I'm broke!...so what). I may not post much,..but I do read most of the postings, and the info/opinions the members have provided are most helpful about the Jazz music that I love so much.
Much luv to you Ms. Lois, your Jazz Corner and the members helped me so much over the past few years.
Thank you.

Hey I'm Deborah.
I've never posted or replied to anything, so hi to everyone.
I'm 15 and at the moment my favorite artists are Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Ben Allison, Miles, Mingus, Coltrane...there are tons of others that I can't think of now.
That's all.
