Tell me....why do you come to the Alley?

OK.

So why do we come here....day after day, hour after hour?

What draws us to this place on JazzCorner?

What on Earth is the compelling interest for us in this somewhat bawdy and irreverent cyber den of iniquity....?

What's with asking a question and not sharing your own answer? Are some kind of teacher or something?

Tell me....why do you come to the Alley?

I read and post in The Alley for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that (many years ago) I strongly encouraged Lois to create such a forum on Jazz Corner. That comment's not meant to stroke me, but to simply indicate that I (along with countless others) enjoyed a similar, unique space on Jazz Central Station long before its demise.

To answer the thread question in as few words as possible:
  • It's the only place you'll find recipes
  • There are many cool anecdotes and photos
  • Many hip subjects other than jazz are discussed
  • Chiles and charcoal get equal billing with gerbils
You get the idea, I hope.

I come here because my friends are here.

I can not only find out what other people are listening to, but what they are eating, what they are cooking, what they think about current events and every once in a while I can induce some fellow crazies to write a collaborative story, or engage in ongoing nonsensical sparring. I also enjoy the film discussions, the book excerpts and the other many and varied discussions.
The posters here make me laugh, make me cry and sometimes even tick me off.
But still, here I am.

Scott, I don't flatter people, but I do occasionally find you vexing, but lovably vexing. You're like a neighbourhood kid, constantly pulling pranks, but ultimately part of the total community. Every once in a while you go too far, but I've been known to do that too. Hey, we're family, not a chapter of the saintly ladies of the Salvation Army.

1. Someone other than me started a Gentle Giant thread.
2. I can have warm exchanges on common interests here with the same people I completely disagree with on the Politics thread. In the real world, I would tune them out long before I had the chance to discover those common interests.
3. Sometimes, I laugh out loud.
4. I've met people I really would like to meet.

I was going to post my reasons, but I just remembered I have to pay my credit card bill online. It just hit me out of the blue. I guess the URL has changed, to http://www.monescheckingaccount.net, although I can't really explain where it is that I read that...

To start boner threads.

And because Lois pays me to start gerbil threads. But not enough.

To become one with the universe. . .

Also, it's the only place where I can find a few people who are as hip as me.

Folks here make me laugh, and I learn a great deal from everyone's posts on various subjects--music, sports, film, literature, politics...

I hope I'm not too much of a nuisance.
