Need immediate speaker advice

so after bouncing back and forth and taking them back to the store... I desperately need some advice ASAP...

I'm rebuilding my audio system... I have a Denon RA395 reciever, a Pioneer 100CD jukebox CD player and this will ONLY be used for audio music (and surprise 99% jazz)...

I have to choose between two sets of speakers...
Either
A) the Polk LSI9 or
B) the Bose 301 Series V...

I've spent the entire evening swapping them back and forth listening to a variety of CDs... I need your advice... as I have to return one of them tommorrow (Wed... the 27th...)
I have my instinct... but please advice...???

They are going in a room that's 9x15....

I'm not a professionnal, but technically, the Polk seem better. Sometimes, the room and the electronics may accentuate the difference. Choose from your heart. If you enjoy the Bose, choose it.

Speakers are the most personal decision you have to make when you buy a system. I never give recommendations for one speaker over another. I always try to pick several well-thought of speaker makers that fit the budget of the buyer and tell them to listen to them and pick the one they like. When it comes down to the point you're at, choosing between the "final two", only your opinion matters... no one else's opinion matters.

Pick the one you like.

Be aware that if you do some research on line, Bose has many fans but probably more people who hate them. Like I said, ignore all of that and pick the one you prefer.

I did end up going with the Polks... it was really rough. They both sounded fine... but the Polks seemed to sound a little "beefier" while the BOSE had a little bit of a thinner sound...


that's the most "technical" way (for a layperson) I can explain it...

An audiophile friend of mine came over the other day to help me replace my phono cartridge. He asked me how I was enjoying my system, which he helped put together for me. I told him that I sometimes heard a little too much brightness on the top notes of treble clef piano chords. He shifted the speakers outword slightly and voila, it went away. Speaker positioning can be as important as the speakers, themselves.

I agree! Speaker placement, positioning, and location within a room are supremely important. I recently upgraded to a pair of Revel Performa F32's, which sound magnificent in our 18" by 22" family room. My bank account will take some time to recover, however, because I also snagged Conrad Johnson's tubed PV14 Series 2 preamp last month. Talk about palpability!!!

I went to UMass with Burhoe's son, and my factory-made and -picked up Burhoe Acoustics speakers have been serving me well since 1982 or 3. His new firm is Direct Acoustics. Haven't heard them in person but they look real cool.
