Total Jazz

So, there's this comic book thread in the Alley and it reminded me of this book I wanted to tell you about.

If you're into graphical work, you might want to check out Total Jazz, a collection of short stories, originally published in a french jazz magazine, by one of the finest french comic book writer/artists today, Blutch.

Total Jazz is not primarily a story of jazz but more about memories (real or imaginary), atmosphere and spirit, an homage to a way of living, of doing things, to major figures also, with an equal take on the listeners and musicians (Wayne Shorter, Miles Davies, Sun Ra, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, ...) side.

The artwork is among the best I've seen lately, and it shows a variety of techniques and styles, as if Blutch also 'improvised' his drawing along with the various stories and musical moods.

This has not been translated nor published abroad but language shouldn't be an issue, many pages carrying no text at all.

Total Jazz - Histoires Musicales
Writer/Artist: Blutch
Publisher: Seuil (France)
Softcover, 64 pages, B&W
For those interested, it seems it's available at least here and here in North America.
