You Know It's Going to be a Bad Day When...

...one of your co-workers starts screaming from waaaaaaay across the floor then starts sprinting all over the place shouting "I hate this place, I hate this place, I hate this place!!!" He's acting manager for his division for the next two weeks. Every now and then I can hear these primal screams coming from his work area. It's both scary and, I'm embarrassed to admit, pretty damn funny.

Sounds like a Postal Worker. Is he armed?

I just saw one of the screamer's co-workers, another piece of work, and he was acting like nothing odd was going on. I started to ask him what set off the screamer and realized I would probably get a perfectly useless answer. I suddenly feel very sorry for the manager who is on vacation because these two clowns make up half of his staff. No wonder he's always coming to me and my co-worker for help, much to my boss' annoyance.

I presume the screamer is not armed. One can only hope.

I know it will be a bad day for me when the equipment doesn't work.

I remember many a time at the NBC station that I used to work for had an old automation system for playback of commercial spots. That went down quite a bit. It wasn't fun when it happened.

For now I am dealing with an automation system being run by windows. Much better than what I had to deal with, but it still hiccups on occasion.

So I asked the head case who works with the screamer what set off the screamer and he said that everyone has their own way of letting off stress. Okay. I told my boss what happened and he proceeded to tell me about a bizarre experience he had with the screamer in a BART station. The conclusion in our group is that the screamer needs help, really. Yelling is not new for this guy, but shrieking while sprinting across the floor and pounding on office furniture is bizarre even by SF standards.

I really need to find another job.

I had a part time job many years ago that gave me a lifetime's worth of coworker memories. One guy used to lock himself up in the walk-in cooler when he got stressed out. One day, he really snapped and started opening the gallons of milk and pouring them over his head. This was really cold milk, too.

FWIW, I agree with Rainy. I admit I thought those posts were funny at first. But not only is Darryl's "stuffs" getting pretty old and repetitive, every one of those posts certainly could be construed as racist stereotyping, even if that's not the intent.

Enough already.

It wasn't you, Larry. Darryl deleted his post, which was after yours.

I don't think Darryl's posts are a racial stereotype. I think those who do have done some stereotyping of their own.

No doubt, but then when someone complains about it as being insulting, how much do you keep hammering away?

That's actually a very good point and one worth discussing.

It depends on your point of view. In a court of law, the sensitivity issue is often discussed in this sort of situation.

Would a "reasonable" person be insulted in this situation? That issue came up with the sexual harassment courses I helped teach.

For example, if I say to someone at work, "Hey, how are you doing?" and they scream out "Pig! Racist!" then they're not reasonable...

Not at all. It was not directed at you, it was directed at a post by Darryl that has been deleted. You were one of the persons who stated you were uncomfortable with Darryl's comments.

Insensitive to other people's feelings, and proud of it.

One of my classmates at law school drove an ambulance, and he said he always knew it was going to be a good day when he got his coffee from Dunkin Donuts and he bent the lid flap back and it stuck in place on the first try.

my younger brothers asked me this question.

what is a typewriter?? i told them and ancient tool which moves the way a keyboard on a laptop works.

dad use to collect old 1800 typewriters, and they are on display at my grandmothers house in Louisiana.

they are constantly being polished and refurbished.(Sp)

not to stray from the title of this post.

you know when people are going to have a bad day or ones own self.

being in the armed forces tends to make people pull out their hair, shout on the top of their lungs for a lunch break and it the soda machine doesn't make change, guns will be reloaded.

at this point half of the room in theirs desks.

anyone can post it for that day.. to go postal is just a little harsh for some to admit.

if you have fools for employees or co-workers, you don't quit, you just promote them to higher rank.

that way they are in a huge office away from everyone and close the door and sleep, watch porn or do the nasty with themselves.

we had two such bosses in civil service in Chicago that had to be taken away in hand-cuffs.

now back to that movie of the screaming employee.
