Enjoy jazz at the Oregon coast at the second annual Jazz at Newport Festival, Sept. 9-11. The three-day event will feature world-class musicians at the Newport Performing Arts Center and select venues throughout town. Attendees also will be able to enjoy jazz performances at local bookstores, bistros and galleries.
The event will be headlined by Marlena Shaw backed by the Mel Brown Quartet. Other well- known artists include Jenna Mammina, Cami Thompson backed by Swing Shift, Barbara Blair joined by the David Hutson Quartet, Marilyn Keller with Tall Jazz, Eleven Eyes, and the Mario Flores Latin Jazz Band.
Interspersed throughout the weekend will be free educational workshops, lectures and jazz dialogues that offer attendees an opportunity to learn from, listen to and talk with their favorite jazz artists. In addition, Mel Brown will conduct a two-day summer jazz camp preceding the festival.
