Jazzcorner Live chat - Sue Mingus Aug 24

Will there be a dedicated link off the home page to participate? Are you taking questions in advance? I'll be out of town but hope to be able to log in. In the event that I'm not able to participate, will there be a transcript?

That is the plan: on August 24 log in to http://jazzcornerlive.com

YOu must have java script enabled... That is really the only requirement

It's pretty cool - I will be moderate and then I queue your questions so Sue will have time to answer each person. If you want to respond to her answer you send your response to the queue and I put it in next so questions to get out of order and people to step over each other.

I thought it worked really well with Gary Giddins

If anyone is unsure that they can use the software, we can have "test time" for a couple of hours that day or the day before

Peace Lois

Sue was on my weekly program just this past Sunday!

I hope I can get away to ask one more question that was in reserve that we didn't have time for.

Lois, the banner ad is very east coast-centric: it gives a time, but doesn't qualify it with time zone.

i have to ask ya...how can u not have time for sue?? dont you tape your interviews so you can ask all you want with time...then return to edit out???

and why does your station insist on maintaining a time schedule so fastidiously, do u think the audience cares that much....when i worked radio we could go over...radio seems like it has become so anal...inflexible...run by retards who care nothing about the audience...i suspect this is public radio...npr morning edition has become total suck...

even woi radio in ames iowa which is an am radio station and won 'best station of the yr' award would extend interviews overtime occassionly.......

This was a live phone interview.... as for the remainder of your idiotic questionaire/critique/RANT [were you listening?], when you get back into radio, do whatever you want!

I'd love to join you, but I have a long drive to and from my gig that night and probably won't be able to. What's the time frame?

I am unfortunately in a completely different time zone.

I hope that people get Sue talking about all of that great live Mingus that has still not seen a legitimate release. Ask her what happened to Revenge Records. Ask her how long she is planning to continue her active campaign to prevent the release of a major part of Mingus' legacy.

I plan to. Offhand, though, I can't think of anything to ask Sue Mingus (and I haven't read her book).

Edit: Well, I can think of a couple of things.

I plan to try to catch some of the live chat, after returning from my drum lessons. I probably won't get home until a little after 9pm EDT.

I won't be able to join the chat. But tell Sue that I love her writing and I found her delightful at Val's B-day dinner!! I think she's fabulous!

I'm planning on participating, but will be doing so from a dial-up line. Hopefully, that won't make the experience less satisfying.

GG--

Having dialup hasn't been a problem for me during previous JC chats, but get Java (free) if you don't already have it. You can Google a download site for it. (However, IIRC, I didn't have any trouble when I didn't have Java.)

Not at all - but if you want to come over now, and chat in real time and see how it works you shoud do so http://jazzcornerlive.com

Use your screen name or whatever name you want and check the profile setting so you can get an avatar etc.

I'm not there right now so the chat is unmoderated!

A drum student cancellation means that I may be able to participate in the entire chat afterall.

GG, many of us are still on "old school" dialups.

Famous last words. I lost my dialup connection twice during the Sue Mingus chat. However, I'm guessing that I would have lost it no matter what site I was at.

Lois--

Looking forward to seeing a transcript of tonight's chat, whenever. Thanks for the chat!

I also lost my connection once, bluenoter. That's unusual, actually. It was frustrating, so I'm also looking forward to seeing the transcript when Lois has a chance to post it.

Fascinating glimpses into an arena most of us are never privileged to enter at this level.

Thanks so much to Sue Mingus and Lois for the opportunity to connect.
