Your Dream Car
Here's a page for all of us car guys.
We all have a dream car....what's yours?
Mine?
A black Porsche Carrera Targa Top with light brown leather interior, gold rims and a Blaupunkt six speaker stereo system with a sub-woofer.
On my vacation I saw a Porsche Carrera GT and it was just awsome. I talked to the owner of the car and he told me only 500 existed in the USA.
0-60 in 3.5 seconds and with a top speed of 205 mph.
WOW

The Porsche Type 356 Coupe is simply one of the most beautiful cars ever built. I've felt that for over 40 years.
My first new car was somewhat similar in appearance, but not nearly as fast . . . a 1967 Saab 96 V4. I loved that car, a spectacular performer.
This is what our first new car looked like, in a different color.
Ours was Sand, a very warm, creamy color. Great automobile!

My favorite car that I owned was a 1953 Studebaker Starlight coupe. It was a babe magnet.

So hard to decide. That 911 Turbo has been on top of my list since I was a kid. I remember when me and my old man test drove one and I rode in the space behind the seats (there was just enough room for a kid to lie down sideways) with my dad driving and the salesman in the passenger seat. My dad never got the car out of second gear. My dad had no intention of buying one, but we felt we deserved at least that little drive.
I would not turn down the Mercedes SL65. Until this year, your choices were the SL500 with the V8, the SL55 with the AMG V8 and the SL600 with the V12. Now they've come out with the AMG treatment of the V12. Twin turbocharged aluminum V12, hand built by one guy, who signs his name on the block. It puts out about 600 hp and 735 foot pounds of torque. Yow! Not to mention all the crazy technology that holds it all together.

Why is this?
I've driven the same Toyota Camry since 1997. Cars do nothing for me. Except this one, which gives me an instant Woody.

I've always loved these too. When I was in high school, I returned home from a week-long church activity to find a black one sitting in the driveway. My dad had bought one of my dream cars (for himself, of course--it wasn't the last time, either. About 10 years later, he did the same thing--BMW 740iL). At the time, he owned a business that set up Porsches and BMWs for racing. He had put a bigger turbocharger in his 911, and had some of the turbo-lag fixed. The thing hauled ass.
My girlfriend came over one night, and I asked my dad if I could take her for a ride in it, since she'd never been in a Porsche. He told me I could if I promised to go the speed limit. I promised, but had no intention of keeping that promise. Little did I know that my mother was going out to pick up my brother from basketball practice--I passed her going about 135mph, which, of course, is so fast that I didn't even see her when I passed her--I was too busy focusing on not crashing. I got the shaft when I got home and never got to drive the car again, but fortunately they didn't realize just how fast I was going. My mother's estimate was 85mph in a 40 zone. Yeah, right.
My current favorite car is probably my father's current car:
BMW M3 (not the newest one, with the updated body, but the previous style). His is dark blue, almost black. He let me drive it once, and it was an interesting experience. It has the SMG (sequential manual gearbox) transmission, which is basically a clutchless stick. It has three shift modes: shift paddles on the steering wheel, a stick in the usual place (only has up and down, rather than the usual notches for the various gears), and an automatic mode. It would take some getting used to. Beautiful car, very fast, great handling. I'd love to own one, but I'm far, far away from being able to afford it.

Great story, vibes!
The M3 is a motherf**ker, I agree. They're expensive, but at that price there's really no competition. I've never driven one, although I've heard that the SMG is a little strange and takes some getting used to (though not nearly as much getting used to as the iDrive they put in the first 7 series models took).
A young girl who takes her car to the same carwash I go to drives an M3. She's obsessive about caring for that car. She pulls it into a nearby parking space after getting it washed and methodically dries it by hand with a towel, carefully getting all the spots in between the grill. I don't know how this fine piece of young ass wound up with that car, but whenever I see her adoring that M3 the way she does, I smile and remember that the world hasn't completely turned to sh** yet.

I share your love of M3s, vibes, but I prefer the E30 series, with the 190 hp four cylinder engine. There's a black one in the Hyannis area in pristine condition that I slobber over from time to time.
My all time favorite car is the 2002, however. This is the ultra-rare turbo model:
I used to own a '76 automatic. An old lady turned into my lane without looking and totaled it, though.

I was. But an 18 wheeler totaled my Passat. Now I'm into Touaregs.
My Passat was a B4, older than the one in your picture.

This reminds me: I overheard a conversation between one of my Los Angeles client's kids, a teenage girl about 16 or so who has lived her whole life in extreme wealth and excess. She said (in a valley-like accent), "Well, like, I don't know. He's kinda sketchy. Like, he drives, like, a BMW." She said "BMW" like it was a trash car. I thought to myself, what the fuck did she want him to drive, a Bently or something???

Good man, I hate to tell you the car in that picture that you posted is NOT a Targa. A Targa is a two seater with a removable top. This one has a solid top. Also please make sure you spell PORSCHE correctly. (It's not Porche.)

I love this photograph!
One of my favorite vehicles that we've owned was our beloved 1970 VW Microbus w/ Westfalia Camper package. What a great little rig! We had so much fun camping and fishing with our kids in that vehicle over the years. What an ingenious design for sleeping 4-5 comfortably, including pop-up top, icebox, water storage and pump, foldup dining table, closet, etc.
We bought it used for not much money (under $2,000), had it repainted, keeping the original Arctic White (above waistline) and having the section painted a very rich Triumph blue. We had a very good shop nearby which loved keeping aircooled VWs running well. Sadly, the body rust overwhelmed us, and we sold it several years ago.
Here's an earlier (1964) VW Microbus which I always admired, the venerable 21-window bus.
What a beauty! Very hip ride if you're not in a hurry or on a freeway.

Ron, when I was in high school there was a VW transporter like the one in your picture, but it was fully restored and painted with the Greyhound Bus Lines paint job, just like the big coaches. I assume it was owned by the bus line, but I never found out for sure. I saw it a hadful of times driving around the Worcester, MA area.

if your weight and height are below average, this may be a cheap alternative.
