Black-skinned once more?

Swedish medical breakthrough to cure vitiligo. A reknown Amercan artist who claims he has white skin because of the illness vitiligo may return to his original skin color - even if he in fact does not have vitiligo, says the Swedish professor Gunnar Kratz. I can imagine that is good marketing of the new cure he has developed.

I believe Salif Keita has the illness.

I believe Salif is an albino.

But I could be wrong.

I believe he's an albino, too. Looks like that it is not excactly the same, but somewhat related.

Albinonism is inherited and I'm not sure it could be treated by this method.

This guy may be treated, Kranz believes:

And vitiligo is an illness for all colors - only more visible on black-skinned.

I was thinking the same thing regarding Jacko.

Then again, he's probably had enough treatments for one lifetime.

Not really related. Vitiligo sufferers lack of melanocytes in affected areas; albinos have melanocytes but lack melanin - a genetic condition.

Also, do albinos progressively become albinos because vitiligo is a condition that starts in affected areas and spreads out. My sister developed vitiligo patches on her legs as a kid but the spreading halted. I don't remember the exact treatment--topical creams and sunlamp treatments 20 years ago--but I know it didn't come with any promises. It seemed to have stopped on its own.

I think vitiligo is probably genetic too. When my sister had it, they really didn't know much if anything at all about what causes it. The treatments were experimental focused on finding ways to encourage or restimulate melanin production in the affected areas.
