Jazz renditions of Ennio Morricone

I just found out that tonight's gig has as its theme "Spaghetti Westerns", and I'm scrambling for suitable music. I'm about to scan Zorn's Big Gundown to see if any tracks are suitable for playing as dinner/ pre-dance music. And I've a couple of cuts each from Enrico Rava's Ballads and the Rough Guide to Italy that might work.

But I have the feeling I own other jazz renditions of Enrico Morricone besides the Zorn that aren't occurring to me now. What might I be forgetting?

Prime gig, by the way, that I've had for ten years or more, for the Maytags (yes, those Maytags, and he's also the founder and CEO of Anchor Steam Beer), a great couple, very nice, smart, and intense. They rent a large parquet dance floor and have it set up on a hill overlooking their vineyard in St. Helena.

The Pieranunzi/M. Johnson/J. Baron trio have two discs where they play Morricone's music, on CamJazz. It's perhaps not a jazz rendition but Galliano/Portal do a version of Latin Quarter, I think, on their Concerts 2001 (or was it 2003) on Dreyfus. There should be others but from recent times these are all I remember.

Coincidentally, I've just listened to my first Pieranunzi this morning ("The Night Gone By"), but no Morricone on it.

And I have the "Concerts" album by Portal/ Galliano, 2004, Dreyfus, but I'm not seeing any Morricone compositions listed.

Breuker's done the "Good, the Bad and the Ugly" theme. His (Breuker's) piece, "Spanish Wells" also owes a lot to Morricone.

It's not jazz but there's Hugo Montenegro's version, which became a top40 hit in the 1960's.

Amazon lists the following by Montenegro,
Music From 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly' & 'A Fistful Of Dollars' & 'For A Few Dollars More' [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

I have two live concert discs of Zorn playing Morricone. If you want copies, send me a PM.

Steve, I went on vacation when you were listening to "Cuff Clout." How did you end up liking it?

I just ordered the Jon Rose Rosenberg disc. I have a new rec for you,
Round About Weill-Trovesi, Gianluigi / Coscia, Gianni

Gordon: I like "Cuff Clout", although I'm not wildly enthusiastic about it. I think I may admire it more than really dig it. Still, it's very dense and I may come to like it more with more listens, as I sort out the lyrics.

I already have that Weil/ Trovesi disc, and also like it without being wild for it. Certainly the tamest Trovesi I've heard, although very pretty stuff.

The dance went very well (the Maytags always get a great mix of fascinating folks), and now that they undertstand what the laptop allows me to do they'll give me more advance warning about their 'themes' for future dances. It's not finalized yet, but they're leaning toward a Japanese/ Samuri/ Western theme for next year -- so they'll show Yojimbo and Seven Samuri on the screen while I bombard them with sine waves, etc.

Gordon: And I should also tell you that the Brainweather/ Rosenberg disc -- while wonderful and uniqe -- is atypical of Rose. The other 4 Rose albums I have are either all or almost all music, while Brainweather is mostly talk and songs. Hope you like it!

I have both Morricone-related discs gokhan mentions, and they're superb, in my estimation. Send me a PM, if necessary, Steve.
