Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra - Not in Our Name

This seems to be coming out next week. Has anyone heard it? I'd like comments... I've always found something interesting in each of Haden's LMO releases, even if his other projects leave me somewhat indifferent.

That might be because I'm a peacenik, pseudo-hippie communist.

This sounds and looks extremely promising. I love the artistic courage and attitude. I seem to recognize most musicians, but who's the one in the middle?

I've preordered it and haven't heard it ... but in terms of its/his politics... I'm 99% sure it's a record opposing the war specifically and the Bush administration in general....

I'm really looking forward to it... And yes... to the other poster.. that's Carla Bley...

The fat guy's Tony Malaby. I caught this band live at North Sea Jazz 2004 and Charlie had then announced the album as forthcoming - took a long time, apparently. I liked the music but not so much that I'd buy the disc, some of the soloists I found stronger, e.g., Malaby, than others, e.g., Zenon, and overall it was ok. I remember at least one up-beat, reggae infused and vamp based, Bley composition and they also played a Bley arrangement of Barber's Adagio for Strings. Anyway I'll wait to see comments here before even considering picking this up. Oh yeah and I remember Charlie saying "What a band!" at the end of the concert so I think he's happy with this incarnation and perhaps the results on disc are better than the concert I attended.

Question:
Is it
- the original old banner?
- a good photo-mounting?
- a perfect reproduction?

Thanks for the hint, i ordered, before i replied

I have the CD, I like it a lot. It's very mellow, the same vibe as Nocturne and Land of the Sun, with a bigger group and better arrangements.

It is the same banner, Carla made it 38 years ago and got it out for this occasion.

I buy it this week.

I like the reggae version That Carla made of Metheny / Bowie's composition "This is not America". The beginning of the song don't look that the song will turn to reggae influence.

On "America the Beautiful", the first two minutes are made like old jazz with a Parker twist.

Matt Wilson at the drum made a good work on this dics too.

I really like the final part of the text of what AllMusic said about it:

"While a jazz recording, this album crosses the boundaries of the genre and becomes a new world music, a new folk music: one to be celebrated, perhaps even cherished."

I took this from the Yahoo's fan club of Ornette Coleman:

There is an interview with Charlie Haden on Pacifica's Democracy Now!,
including a discussion of Liberation Music Orchestra.

Here's the link:
