Welcome George Cables
Need I say more. Except that George is leading the George Cables Project (duh) this Friday, Sat and Sunday at Jazz Standard with
George Cables - piano
Gary Bartz
Eric Revis
Jeff "Tain" Watts
IMO, one of the most melodic pianists and great composers around!

In my opinion, too! George has graced our local Healdsburg Jazz Festival with his presence several times, and he is always a joy to hear. Last time I saw him, he opened for a Bobby Hutcherson-led group, telling the audience, "The rest of them sent me out here to see whether or not you were friendly."
His Maybeck album is one of my favorite solo piano albums. I really dig his Gershwin album ("By George"). And I thought his recent album, "Looking For The Light" -- with its gorgeous, way-slowed-down version of "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" -- was a real gem!

George Cables is a splendid addition.
I've been enjoying his work for years.
On the Mosaic Select Dexter Gordon set, George almost outshines LTD.

I plan to be a regular visitor hopefully I'll be able to respond to any questions and comments you may have. You can also contact me directly through my website on Jazzcorner.I hope to see you this weekend at the Jazz Standard where I'll be playing with a very special quartet(the George Cables Project) , which includes Gary Bartz, Jeff Watts, and Eric Revis.

I quite agree. Clint, what lp's are incorporated into that set???
I first heard George live with Dexter's group in Chicago in the early 80's....

Yes, I saw them together ca. '77. I'm really sorry I never got to see George & Art Pepper.
My first awareness of George came when I bought Woody Shaw's "Blackstone Legacy" as a teenager.

I must add that after having the pleasure of doing the Bud Shank Jazz clinics with George for a couple years, in addition to being a monster pianist and composer, he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet and hang with!
Welcome George!

I've been just listening to a private, live recording of George with that Freddie Hubbard group from Ebbets Field, in Denver, from 1975.
Great electric piano work, George. You brought a lot to that instrument, in those days.
The Group includes: Freddie, George, Junior Cook, Ralph Penland.
I love Joe Locke's tune written for you "Song for Cables" .

I hope to hear drummer Ralph Penland next month with the John Hammond Trio, featuring special guest, Pete Christlieb. With any luck, Valerie will be able to join us.

i think george has a special place in jazz with his association with art pepper in the 70s and 80s.
pepper & cables left a legacy of the strongest set of bebop recordings ever made...

June, It's a live recording from Keystone Korner in S.F. I'm not sure it's been released before. It's a great package with some very hip liner notes.
