All right, I'm stumped. Even looked here for help.

Tricky--

Try Googling Oop Bop Sh Bam Gillespie (as in Dizzy).

Then think of the sound of a bop riff--say, a horn riff or a drum riff ("Ish Biddily Oten Doten . . . " is definitely a drum riff).

Most or all of those are examples of the same principle, though not in reference to bop. In an all-vocal group, they would serve as "instrumental lines." (I'm trying soooo hard to avoid looking up the spelling of "onomato . . . " and "a capella.")

BTW, that's not original; it's part of an old (from my youth) camp cheer. Most of the cheer is sung rather than spoken; it's call-and-response; and it has shifting motifs of what really are nonsense words, vaguely Native American- or Polynesian-sounding--except for that "drum riff," which is near the end. The version I know is long, and I remember only parts of it--e.g.,

Pommelah p'koomelah p'koomelah veestay
(Pommelah p'koomelah p'koomelah veestay)
Veestay
(Veestay)
Veestay
(Veestay)
Oh, no, no, no, not the veestay
(Oh, no, no, no, not the veestay)
Ish biddily oten doten wah bop a deeten doten . . .

Here's a version of another part of it, from online:

Eenie meenie disaleenie ooh ah ah hameenie
Ahtchah kahtchah koomahrahtchah ah ooh ooh . . .

(This post is deeply revelatory, I might add.)

Floogle mop, klooka mop, glooga mop--one thing's for sure: as recorded by Billy Eckstine and Dizzy Gillespie bands, it's oop bop sh'bam.

Marge: That's "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
Homer: OK, then, this: doo doo-doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo --
Marge: That's the same thing; you just replaced "dee"s with "doo"s.
Homer: D'oh!

Grease Soundtrack Lyrics

Song: We Go Together Lyrics

We go together like ramma lamma lamma ka dinga da dinga dong
Remembered forever as shoo-bop sha whada whadda yippidy boom da boom
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop that's the way it should be

Our names are signed boogedy boogedy boogedy boogedy shooby do wap shoo bop
Chang chang changity chang shoo bop we'll always be like one
Wa-wa-wa-one

When we go out a night (oh-h oh)
And stars are shining bright (oh-h, oh)
Up in the skies above
Or at the high school dance
Where you can find romance maybe it might be lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uve

Ramma lamma lamma ka dingity ding da dong
Shoo bop shoo wadda wadda yippity boom da boom

We'll always be together
We'll always be together

Hey! (cf. post #6)

I'm trying to transcribe Louis Armstrong's vocal to "The Faithful Hussar" (off Ambassador Satch), but I'm laughing too hard. Apparently Satchmo couldn't remember the title to the song (he introduces it as "Huzzah Cuzzar") or the lyrics, hence his scatting.
