It'll be "Too Bad Jim," his first recordings, and some bourbon for me tonight. Goin' down south, goin' down south...

I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. He had a pretty tough life until the last few years.

Here's the album his Times obit didn't mention by name--"A Ass Pocket Of Whiskey":

I'm sorry he's gone to the great beyond. Never got to hear him live.

I saw him a few years ago opening for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (I know *some* posters like those mutts but I couldn't leave the place fast enough after note 1), just him and his acoustic guitar. I don't know how long he played but it was all good, a nice Fred McDowell type approach but with his own nuances. I suppose there's somebody down in the South that'll pick up the baton but right now I sure don't know who it would be.

I had the honor of seeing him at the Fountain Blues Festival in San Jose quite a few years back and he was a wonderful musician.
