Rod Stewart must pay $2 million

This one's for Larry.

Jury: Rod Stewart must pay $2 million
Singer must return advance plus interest; will appeal

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AP) -- A federal jury decided Wednesday that Rod Stewart should pay a Las Vegas casino $2 million plus interest for a canceled show in December 2000.

The seven-member jury found unanimously that Stewart should not have kept an advance he was paid for the show at the Rio Hotel Casino.

The 60-year-old Stewart, who was not in U.S. District Court when the verdict was reached, had said he was unable to perform because of throat surgery several months earlier.

One of his lawyers, Kerry Garvis Wright, said the rock star will appeal.

Steve Morris, a lawyer for the Rio Hotel Casino and its parent company, Harrah's Entertainment, said he was "delighted and relieved" by the verdict.

What a cock. Can't wait to undo the tie until you drive off in the limo, Rod? Pampered, spoiled f**k.

$2 million? Phwah! I bet Rod Stewart wakes up with that kind of wad stuffed under his balls.

What am I missing here? The guy can't do the show and refuses to give his advance back, so they have to sue him? He thinks he has a right to keep the money?

Isn't this kind of a no-brainer? Would any court have found in Stewart's favor?

His appeal will consist of his protesting, "But....but...I'm a BIG HAS-BEEN ROCK STAR!! Mere laws cannot quash my right to appear or not to appear. My accepting the gig, whether I actually showed up or not should have been reward enough for Harrah's. What did they expect? A performance? Peasants!!!"

Yeah. That's gonna work.

Rod not performing? $2m seems a little steep - BUT NOT BY THAT MUCH.

Reminds me of the old Marx Brothers bit:

"How much will it cost if you don't play at all?"

"You couldn't afford it!"

What's the story behind the your love fest with Rod Stewart Larry?...I could use a good read this morning. I get the impression he's not one of your favorites.

Remember that old urban legend about how Rod Stewart had to get his stomach pumped because of an enormous quantity of, um, male protein that he swallowed?

Larry, why don't you tell us what part you played in that episode? It's time for you to, um, come clean.

According to Long John Baldry; apparently the difference between a bull and Rod Stewart is that with the bull, the horns are up front and the asshole is in the back.

Sure. I'm the one who made that story up.

One step ahead of the game,

Larry, you are freakin' brilliant!!

At the risk of Larry no longer loving me anymore...I have to say I don't mind Rod Stewart. I think "Every Picture Tells A Story" is a great song. Several years ago I saw Rod in concert at Mad. Sq. Garden and the concert was fantastic!! Really, I'm not kidding.

I'm sorry, Larry---otherwise I agree with everything you say or will ever say

Mary! Don't be silly. I have good friends who like him. If I couldn't get past that, I'd never be able to co-exist with millions of people.

imo, "great" and Rod Stewart have no connection whatsoever. Except, of course, in his mind. I especially dislike his best-selling cd's where he attempts to sing Jazz standards. Makes me wanna puke. I can compare it only with the drivel Kenny G puts out.

Oh yes, I have to agree with you re: his "jazz standards"--they are horrible. But, in his day, as a rock & roller, Rod was great. I really wish he hadn't mucked around w/ teh standards!

Funny......I'm listening to Jeff Beck's "Truth" right now. Rod was definitely good back then.

I saw him with the Faces in the early 70's. I remember the show as being good....not great.

He was very good before his "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" disco phase. Check out his work with the Jeff Beck Group and with the Faces. It's worthwhile no matter what Larry thinks.

His first two solo albums were pretty good also, "Never a Dull Moment" and "Every Picture Tells A Story", though I prefer the earlier stuff.

History tells otherwise. These four were as good a run as anyone had in the early '70s.

"Handbags and Gladrags," "An Old Raincoat Will Never Let You Down," "Cindy's Lament," "Gasoline Alley," "Every Picture Tells a Story," "Maggie May," "Mandolin Wind," "You Wear It Well," his takes on "Only a Hobo," "My Way of Giving," "I'm Losing You," "I'd Rather Go Blind," "Angel" -- all are timeless.

Thanks for the correction, Chris. Though I'm familiar with the hits, I'll have to check out the first two in their entirety someday.

I also like his version of "Downtown Train", though Tom Waits deserves most of the credit, as the songwriter.

I'll cotton to seeing Rod Stewart and Faces (a few months before Wood left for the Rolling Stones) in early 1974 at M.S.G..

I enjoyed the show.

Back then he was a really skinny fucker in leopard tights.
