I'm going to cream

Going to see the Cream reunion show at Madison Square Garden. I'll be atttending with Steve(theLil) and our friend Zam.

I wonder if I'll be the only one in the audience who's favorite Cream song is "Pressed Rat and Warthog".

Jeff, I don't know if your title was intentionally misleading. But it made me laugh histerically.

BTW I am jealous. Though I don't know what Cream of 2005 sounds like.

Not related, but kind of, I guess, is that I caught some of Steve Winwood's performance on the Today Show last Friday morning. To my great delight and surprise, the two tunes I heard were Medicated Goo and Walking in the Wind. I don't know if he did more but it was a relief not hearing any of his 80s solo stuff. Certainly makes me want to see his current tour.

I'd love to see Cream and I'm upset that Steve (tl) didn't tell me about it or invite me!

Still off-topic, but Winwood's latest album "About Time" was very good, actually. Nothing like that 80's MOR stuff. More of a loose, organ-jam sound.

I keep waiting for Brian to chime in with, "Mmm... organ jam!"

I wouldn't quite say that's my favorite Cream song, but it's among my favorites, quite unlike their most well-known material. The Baker-Taylor and Bruce-Brown compositions are much more progressive than anything Clapton wrote or suggested covering. Whether that's good or bad depends on your taste, but I generally favor Jack Bruce's compositions with Pete Brown's lyrics. I'm also a big fan of Jack's aggressive bass approach, much to the dismay of my band-mates.

Hope they put an a good show for you, jeff. Please share your post-show impressions with us here.

The misleading thread title was purely intentional.

I actually was somewhat ambivalent about going to this show, mostly due to the fact that I haven't been to a concert at the Garden in about 20 years and I feel kind of old to be going to to a rock show at that type of venue now. Not to mention the ticket prices are pretty pricey.

While I wasn't exactly a Cream fanantic back when they were recording albums,
I always had a soft spot for Jack Bruce thanks to Sunshine of Your Love. When I was a struggling bass player with not much talent or ear it was one of the few bass lines I could actually pick out and play.

Thanks to your responses I'm actually am a lot more psyched to see this then I was before. I'll tell you about it after I see the show.

BTW, if I'm not mistaken the DVD set has different takes of the songs than the CD set. Sneaky way to get you to pay a LOT more for this.

Like Goody has heard the Cream of 2005. I know I haven't.

Sweet wine, hay making, sunshine day breaking.
We can wait till tomorrow.
Car speed, road calling, bird freed, leaf falling.
We can bide time.

I was a big fan of Cream as a kid. The lyrics to Tales Of Brave Ulysses are hilarious. Really.

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,
But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,
And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave ulysses:
How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

And you see a girl’s brown body dancing through the turquoise,
And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.
And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,
Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Her name is aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,
And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands
With tales of brave ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing.

The tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers,
And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

I always heard that as "heartland of the winter." "Hard land" makes so much more sense. Which is important in this song, which makes so much sense, which I obviously am not.

Hey, it's figurative poetry, not literal prose. They were also likely under the influence of some heavy drugs at the time.

Well, despite my initial rant about American Express and mu current rant about the absurd greed of Ticketmaster, I'm going as well. My buddy in Cleveland was really excited about it and got us two tickets. Did you know that the a..holes at Ticketmaster charge their convenience charge by percentage of the ticket cost? Now how it is that it's a greater convenience for them to print up a $150 as opposed to a $15 ticket? What a scam!

Jeez, I give you guys a link to the Albert Hall Concert and from this you can ascertain nothing?

I have ascertained the following: They're good. Pains me to say it, as I have come to despise Eric Clapton in my old age, but there's no getting around it: Fuckers can still play.

PS: There's a version of "Sweet Wine" on "Live Cream" (released in 1970). My memory is that it isn't nearly as good as the studio version.
