Hubba hubba. Do I remember correctly that the Governor general is sort of a liason with the British government?

She's not only good-lookin', but she is articulate, knowledgeable on world cultures and politics and socially aware. This is a fine appointment, in my opinion.
Thank you for posting the picture, Claude, so that I have an excuse to extol her other attributes, which are many.

She is the Queen's representative. Like the Queen it's pretty well a ceremonial position. We also have a lieutenant governor in each province, our lieutenant governor's mansion is just down the road from my place, he's a pretty nice cat.

The Queen is an ancient and established British tradition. Our Attorney General is a position that officially is the rep of the Queen, but her role is much more domestic and international than simply another arm of the Queen.

Posting the photograph, while it may very well perk up interest in the political scene here, no reflection on Claude for doing it, has encouraged the very reaction that I feared it would.
If the appointment were a man, would anyone care what he looked like??
Our new Attorney General is so much more than a very pretty face.
I suspect that the comments on her looks, making judgements about her on that basis alone is typical of the scant interest our neighbours to the south have of Canada and it's place in the world. That makes me truly sad.

I think you are reading too much into this. If she was in a position of true power I might agree with you, but the position is really just ceremonial. I personally have a hard time taking the whole monarchy thing very seriously, no reflection on Ms. Jean, that's partly why I posted with the tone that I did.

No, Claude. If you read my first post, you will see that I was attempting to bring forward Ms Jean's accomplishments, thus deflecting the subsequent comments. I failed.
As for whether the Monarchy should be taken seriously, I don't either. Canada has been independant of Britain since Trudeau brought our Constitution home during his term in office as Canada's Prime Minister.
The office of Attorney General was originally established as one in which the Queen would have an official representative here, but is nevertheless a respected, if ceremonial one and if anything Ms Jean is overqualified to hold it.
That does not diminish her accomplishments to this point.

I imagine if the governor of Montana looked like Brad Pitt, and someone posted a picture of him, that some ladies around here might comment on his looks. It's not a denigration of his abilities, but since few of us need to answer to Montana state government, it's of limited interest beyond the superficial.
Similarly, Ms. Jean may be supremely qualified, but unless she can bring gasoline prices down in Melrose, I'm perfectly fine just admiring her facial features.
Here in America, where government officials tend toward the ugly and unqualified, any deviation is a cause for joy, so I'm sorry if we derailed your noble attempt to educate us on what lies beneath the surface.

Fair enough. And you know I could never stay ticked at you, Jason. I wish that Ms Jean could bring down gasoline prices as well. If your decidedly average-looking President can't, it's unlikely that she would be able to do so.
It's true, as Claude says, that Governor General is for the most part, a ceremonial office. Often, that person is the only official person from Canada that many countries see. So, in that regard, it doesn't hurt if she is attractive, as well as being knowledgeable. Michelle Jean is both.

Hate to correct you patricia, but Michaelle is the Governor General, the Attorney General is a cabinet member and is not nearly as good looking , to me anyway:
Irwin Cotler, Attorney General

Sorry, Claude. I know that. In my zeal to defend Ms Jean I erred. I'll edit.
And you're right. Ms Jean is much better looking than Irwin Cotler. Hell, I'M better looking than Irwin Cotler.

I'm waiting for the pictures, which I'm sure you have, Monte of Governor Schweitzer in a speedo, or better yet, a thong.
How can I possibly make an objective comment without that? His other accomplishments and I'm sure he has at least as long a list of them as has Ms Jean, fade into unimportance without a cool assessment of his hotness. t

Can't find any thong shots, patricia. But here's a double beefcake photo of Governor Schweitzer with his domestic partner, from the official Montana website:
John and I welcome you to a new day in Montana. This website is intended to keep you informed of appointments, news and opportunities to serve. We encourage you to explore the many opportunities to help us move Montana forward. --Gov. Brian Schweitzer
EDIT: Further research shows the second guy in the picture is Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger, and not Brian Schweitzer's live-in lover. Sorry!

Too bad you couldn't find a thong shot, Monte.
My. Doesn't the governor look fetching and even perky. You just want to pinch his cheeks, don't you?
And they know about government stuff too?? Wow. With fabulous looks like that, Governor Schweitzer doesn't need to do anything but flash that smile.
