9/30 - J.Stout Orchestra and afterhours Jam - Pasadena FREE

This is a local Los Angeles based big band playing in the Swing and Bop influenced tradition. very little 'nostalgia' music and lots of top players on the band.

They have a pretty big following among younger listeners and Lindy hoppers.

The leader is Jonathan Stout, a 24 y/o guitarist, arranger and leader of 2 groups - his small group, the Campus Five and his full sized orchestra.

Both groups featured the very talented, very lovely and very Anita O'Day influenced singer, Hilary Alexander.

Here's the posting from today -

More information......

"This will be the last time the Orchestra will be playing until New Year's.
Also, I've almost never seen a chance to a have a real jam with musicians like this. A bunch of guys from the orchestra, including our Special Guest Russ Reinberg, will be sitting in. Dan Weinstein will be there with his fiddle and his trombone.

Also, this just in, it looks there may be some Mezzonians in the mix too....

This will kick ass.

Oh, and displaced New Orleans clarinetist Evan Christopher will be there too."

The entire show will last...."At least until midnight, so that's 5 1/2 hours minimum of dancing to kick ass live music.

Also, Jeremy Wakefield might be coming by....

You don't keep live music alive by not going!"

Did anyone get to this gig?

Hot stuff with a band on fire a good deal of the night and the jam session was intense with 6 top sidemen playing and swinging. Also a guest, the "displaced New Orleans clarinetist Evan Christopher" was a wild man on his instrument. Big full sound and lots of ideas. He will be playing there with his own band tomrrow night.

The dance, it turns out, was recorded and broadcast by some internet outfit...ummm...365 Sound or something like that.

That's all for now b/c if no one cares, I'll stop typing right now....
