Oscar Peterson performs at Oscar Peterson HS

Jazz legend Oscar Peterson will perform a rare live concert next week at the Mississauga school that bears his name.
What started off as a charity concert to be performed by staff and students at Oscar Peterson Public School to raise funds for their arts program quickly evolved into a world-class show after Peterson agreed to lend his considerable talent. At the show, which takes place next Thursday, Oct. 20, Peterson will be joined by his bassist David Young, the Shannon Butcher Jazz Combo and the school's junior and senior choirs.

"The Peterson family has been very supportive of our school and its community," said school principal Caroline Mochrie. "We're extremely grateful that Oscar has given his time and talents to support our budding musicians and artists."

Tickets to the concert, which will take place in the school's gym, cost $25. To purchase, call 905-569-6261.

Show time is 7:30 p.m. A reception at 7 p.m. starts the evening's festivities.
