Well...they didn't nickname him Barry Banana-nose for nothing ;-)

This story was also on the front page of the CNN website for a while this morning. It must be a slow news day.

Sumo,
I heard it for the first time on a Dr. Demento radio show when I was still living in SoCal.

Consider the source, Tim.
I think you mean "Dr. Demento."

Well, it was just a matter of time for Barry's nose to get injured.
It is an impressively massive proboscus, though not as big as Durante's which holds some kind of record, I think.

Sure.
I still thought it was pretty funny...and I have heard Barry referenced in this way several times since.
I know I've been doing my best to keep the nickname alive ;-)

I'm surprised he didn't break the wall with that thing.
It's a miracle, you might say.
Maybe he needs a weekend in New England to recover.
I bet he's trying to get the feeling again in his nose.
This one's for you, Barry.
Oh, Nosey, all those years that you smelled without breaking
Til I walked in that wall, oh Nosey
Now they're laughing so hard that they're shaking
And there's blood in the hall, oh Nosey.

Aw, c'mon, be nice, people. He can't laugh and he can't sing. I'll bet he's finding it hard to do anything.

His nose and the wall are two things that crashed in the night.
His name was Barry, he had a big nose
But that was just a day ago
And now it ain't that big no mo'
He felt a stirring, within his bladder
And so he went to find the john
But then the wall came on too strong
You should have heard the thud
His nose was dripping blood
He was lying semi-conscious when he drained his pud
At the Copa, Copacabana
His nose no longer looks like a banana
At the Copa, Copacabana
A cup by the bedside would've have kept his poor head dried
At the Copa, he broke his nose.
