Miles Monday is a unique listening series devoted to the music of Miles Davis. The series ran at the Knitting Factory for a few years and is back in a brand new venue: Mo Pitkin's House of Satisfaction, a bi-level bar/restaurant/performance space at 34 Avenue A (between East 2nd and East 3rd Streets) in the East Village of Manhattan.
This Monday, October 31 from 6-9 we will have in attendance two special guests: Miles' son Gregory is a trumpet player at work on a new CD. He is also a neighbor and will stop by as we play a few cuts from Zulara Ju. Writer Lesley Sussman collaborated with Gregory Davis on a new book about Miles (due xmas 2006). He just handed the ms. into his publisher.
"I'm not aware of anything like this," says Greg Masters, the host of the series. "It's an opportunity for folks to relax in a comfortable lounge, sip a beverage, listen to Miles Davis music through a good sound system and discuss with like-minded fans and future fans. And it's free."
Masters will be spinning from his extensive collection of standard and rare (bootleg) Miles Davis CDs.
"For 50 years, Miles was continually reinventing his sound, evolving, investigating, never standing still. This series is a celebration of his glorious achievements. We might even work up to my Miles concert DVDs."
