Eddie Henderson to Perform at Brooklyn Conservatory of Music

On Saturday, November 5 at 8:00 PM, renowned jazz trumpeter Eddie Henderson will be performing as part of the Jazz at the Conservatory series at Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music. Henderson will perform with his quartet as well as with members of the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra. Tickets for all Jazz at the Conservatory performances are $25 for adults; $15 for students/seniors, and go on sale two weeks prior to each performance. Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music is located at 58 Seventh Avenue, at Lincoln Place, and is accessible by the Q or B trains to 7th Ave. or the 2 or 3 trains to Grand Army Plaza.

The first half of the performance will feature Henderson with his quartet, while the second half will feature the addition of members of the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra to perform an assortment of jazz standards and originals.

Henderson began trumpet studies at the age of 10 in his hometown of San Francisco and, as a teenager, undertook studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. After pursuing undergraduate studies at U.C. Berkeley, Henderson went on to medical school at Howard University and practiced medicine in California. While practicing, he continued to play in clubs throughout the Bay area. Eventually, encouraged by Miles Davis, he decided to pursue music full time. Henderson has worked with John Handy, Tyrone Washington, Herbie Hancock Sextet, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson and many others, in addition to his own group.

With locations in Brooklyn and Queens, the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music is one of the oldest and largest non-profit community schools of the arts in the nation. The Conservatory provides music instruction for everyone, from the 18-month-old child to the 90-year-old senior and is dedicated to remaining affordable and accessible to the diverse communities it serves.
