I don't know a thing about wrestling, but I do know who Eddie Guerrero is. I took my nephews to a WWF match a few years ago, when Guerrero was wrestling. He was a "bad guy" at the time. Afterwards, they had tables set up where you could get autographs and such. Guerrero was an extremely nice to my nephews and an interesting enough conversationalist that we wound up talking for around fifteen minutes about the life of a pro wrestler.

Deceased Pro Wrestlers

Check out the necrology on the right hand side. It's pretty damned scary. I don't know why there isn't any investigation into this form of entertainment that kills so many people so young.

Did you see that piece that they did on Bryant Gumbel's HBO Sports show? I forget the name of the guy who did the interview, but he asked Vince McMahon about the deaths and he almost snapped. He couldn't handle the tough questions. At one point he turned red and lashed out with his hand and smacked the stack of papers the interviewer held in his hands.

If nobody wanted to see over-muscled goons beat each other silly in wrestling rings, there would be no wrestlers risking their lives for the public's "entertainment". Professional wrestling, much like it's cousin, tough-guy competitions, hard drugs, prostitution and hard-core porn, the supply is directly connected to the demand. Sad, isn't it?

You left out racing, fast-food, and shooting err I mean hunting. Let's face it, life is commodity like everything else to be used as we wish for want we want. Much like the amount of death's connected to rock n roll, some people exchange the mundane for something more exciting and visceral and part of the price that is paid is in time. However, if the trade-off is years spent watching crappy sit-coms then I suppose I'd call that a bargain, the best someone ever had......

I miss the simplicity of wrestling, when the sideshow drama wasn't full blown soap opera. These days it's not anything I'd even consider watching with my 9 year old, which is a shame in that my own father and I used to live for 10pm Saturday nights in front of the tube. I stopped watching altogether after Chris Von Erich killed himself.

Every Von Erich son killed themselves except for one, no?

The first time Father Hate saw me watching wrestling he said "Why are you watching that trash?" Needless to say, I was hooked for life.

McMahon is really human garbage, n'est ce pas? The weird thing is that people that know that (Superstar Billy Graham, Piper, etc.) always end up coming back to him. Does anybody know if Brock Lesner (or whatever his real name is) ever made it with the Vikings?

Too bad about Eddie; he was always on the rapid track between good-guy and heel in McMahon's stupid soap operas. Between that and the roids that's gotta have a strange impact on one's psyche. For some reason it makes me feel good that Eddie was a good guy to Mone's nephews and interesting to talk to; I would imagine the life of a wrestler is well paying but very lonely on the road.

The cable shows they do each week will be real tear jerkers.

I remember seeing parts of one of thier shows, may be a couple of years ago, when another guy in his late 30's died.

They NEVER cancel the show or replay a tape...the ultimate "show must go on" bunch.

He was not a vey big guy and was seriously 'roided up' to stay as thick as he looked.

No matter how fake wrestling is, you have to figure that some of that hurts...it can't be good for you health.

I saw Eddie several times with his brother when they wrestled in Texas. It was the WWF before anybody knew what the hell WWF was.

Does anybody remember his brothers name? I think it was Chaco, or something along those lines.

And the Von Erichs story is tragic. They were the most powerful family in the wrestling world. Kerry was world champion at one time. But there were obviously huge emotional problems in those genes.

Eddie Guerrero Dead

I just saw this on the news. Eddie Guerrero, a pro wrestler, was found dead in his hotel room..heart failure.

I will watch wrestling now and again and I've seen guys like Eddie undergo massive transformations. The "little guys" have all hit the juice hard and this is just one of the results. He was all of 5'9" and hit the scales at 220.

Talk about steroids and kids, this industry is the worst!

And just to show you how little I watch wrestling this apparently happened over two weeks ago..

Especially if their name is Gentle Giant. Hell, he tracks the illness leading up to the death.

Move your left index finger down, instead of your FU finger, and you'll type Chavo.
