Climate changes
Now that everyone can see the climate changes about everywhere on earth, and specifically in their home town, is any of you planning to make habit changes for trying to save the planet ?

I definitely is. I saran-wrapped my windows yesterday to provide better insulation. But then I ordered half a cord of firewood, which will probably destroy us all.

OK, it isn't really saran wrap. But its clear plastic film that you tape over your window casements and blowdry to create a shrinkwrapped seal. We'll see if it works. My windows are shit. I mean this is how bad my windows are besides the fact that they're drafty as hell: I have windows that won't open, I have windows that won't stay open, and I have windows that WON'T STAY SHUT! I mean it. I have this window that if it isn't locked into place, will open by itself. You can pull it down. It'll go right back up. Crazy. Why are my windows so shitty? Because they're brand new, of course. If I had windows like my parents have, made forty years ago, there'd be no problem because there would be no fancy innovations in them to fuck everything up. 99% of all improvements lead to garbage.

Ok, thought some ecology expert would get me on the right tracks by now:
I think the planet will survive, no matter what is done. Societies, as we know them, won't survive, not all of them.

I've got a couple of bad windows in my place. What is this plastic covering that you speak of?

Is there a way to not both influence the environment in a bad and good way?
I see humanity as not separate from nature, but as an act of nature. Just another strange twist in the history of nature.

Doesn't every good-old anti-californian believe that california is slipping into the pacific ocean??
I assume you are talking about the dropping water table??

Jazzonline, I know you were more serious when you brought up this thread. If I am to honestly answer you, it is complex. I really do believe humanity is a product of nature, and not separate from it. I also am quite terrified of the results of our ignorance. But really how much control do we have over it, and how are we not all just a product of nature. The oil, the destruction, the resource plundering, all is a result of the empty belly that nature gave us to fill, or the influence thereof (greed).
It is a difficult thing for me to ponder without resorting to humor. If I don't laugh I'll end up screaming.

Remember when Bugs Bunny sawed Florida off of the United States? That really freaked me out when I was a kid.

Well, my point is that in the desert, humans' effect on the environment is NOT easily hidden as it is in some other places. You crap in the desert, its going to be there for 200 years. Likewise, sonic's chronic guzzling of ground water has led to Tucson slowly sink into a giant sinkhole/sandpit.
Sonic knows I'm just kidding him. But the growing effect of Tucsnix (the slow merging of Phoenix-Tucson) is having a huge effect on a very fragile desert ecosystem.
ie due to LA-Vegas-Phoenix, the Colorado River no longer reaches the Sea of Cortez.

I didn't think it would be all serious on Friday afternoon. Humor doesn't bother me.
People in general won't move until something bad happen to them personally. Recently bad things happened, let's just mention New Orleans. What happened then? They blamed the president.
I wonder who or what I'm going to blame.

The way I look at it, I'm just one person, so I should be able to do whatever I want without doing any significant damage to the environment. I strongly urge everyone else to be careful and practice conservation. That ensures that I can continute to not do the same, since it will be just me.

This is Duck Product's window insulation kit. I got it at Wal-Mart, where they have a good selection of sizes and products at cheap prices. But don't tell Rollhead or he'll shit.

Thanks! The wife is going to Walmart tonight, I'll have her take a look at it. I've got one window that won't shut all the way(it shuts, but you can't get both latches to engage), and the bay window in my kitchen is quite drafty.

As long as he doesn't do it in the desert, that won't be an indefinite problem.

May those who voted "I already do" elaborate on what they actually do?
Thanks

Oh hell, Nagel lives in Detroit. Home to the Rouge River, a moving body of water that is so nasty they gave up trying to clean it and just paved the banks so the funk would be sealed up.
Stumble in any body of water in the Detroit area and you better rush your sorry ass to the nearest bank of antibiotics available!
Consequently I went from the above to the below
Never regretted my choice
