A brief explanation.

I saw that some folks here wondered if something traumatic had happened in my life to bring me to the decision to leave the board.

Well, I wouldn't call it traumatic. But, Kelly has been going through some medical problems the last few months(started around July). I won't go into detail much, suffice to say she was dealing with a lot of pain and even had a Laproscopic sx a few months back to remove some cysts and scar tissue in her pelvic region. After that, the doctor who was treating her essentially told her that there was nothing else she could do for her. Kelly was still dealing with quite a bit of pain at this point.

Her doctor sent her to see a surgeon who told her that she believes the pain may be caused by interstitial cystitis, for which there is no cure. Kelly would come home from these Dr.'s appointment in tears because she was so frustrated. And although none of you know her personally, she is the ultimate "suck it up and deal with it" type. She complains about nothing. So just the fact that she was visibly in such pain really drove home to me how bad this really was.

She is now seeing a doctor who heads the research deaprtment at MU, and though she is still dealing with the pain, is in much more positive state of mind because this doctor actually has a plan in place for her care.

So, in hindsight I think a lot of that was started to wear on me emotionally. and I have bizarre ways of dealing with that kind of thing. I usually retreat completely. Although I did discuss this briefly with Ma, Cappz, and I believe Monte(though I can't remember now), I tend to remain quiet and withdrawn when dealing with things like this.

I was also getting incredibly tired of living in the spotlight here. Sometimes it seem I'm more of a legend than an actual person.

GG said something once during one of the grave dancing parties over my departure that he was sick of all the Scott Dolan threads, although he wrongly attributed most of them to me, which is not the case. He also said exactly what I feel these days, "I'd rather talk to Scott than talk about Scott."

'Nuff said.

Wow.

I had no idea, Scott. But don't kick yourself over it. It happens to all of us and I have reacted badly because of bullshit in my world, too.

Be sure to wish your wife well for me, OK?

And I, for one, am glad you're back

Go easy, my friend.

In the spirit of *complete* disclosure, you only told me after I suspected Les was Scottie on the NFL thread. I mean who else would peg the Dolphins as the enneffell's worst team?

You also subsequently told Gordo.

Hope things work out well for Kelly.

I was the second person to bust Scott for being Les. By private email. I knew it right off the bat, because I have regard for him. And therefore regard for his wife. Best to the family, Les. I'm still going to call you Lesbo.

He told me straight out.

But I didn't rat him off at his behest

Just to set the record straight, I was outted by the following in order:

1. Cem - Over a goddamn Phish album cover none the less!

2. Cappz - For the reasons he already stated

3. Monte - His was probably the most impressive of all, but I won't get into how he did it. It's up to him whether he'd like to reveal it.

Mr. Dolan,
Congratulations on your maturity and good judgement to realize, perhaps somewhat belatedly after thousands of posts here, that cyberspace is just one small portion of one's life, or at least it should be. It's not rocket surgery.. just a bunch of pixels. Best wishes to you and yours.

Lenny,

What a fine thing to say.

I have always respected you and the work you do [I mean, beside the excellent guitar playing ] and I see you as a kind and caring man who sees a difficulty in someone's life and finds a realistic and compassionate solution. Your advice to me has carried me far.

You are a Man among men, my friend.

Goodstuff,
Thanks for your kind words.. which are more important than a bunch of pixels. Happy Thanksgiving. Later tonight, there's gonna be jam session amongst yours truly and a bunch of musical friends. Put in your requests now.. jazz, blues, fusion, maybe some rock. No rap.. the vocalist is away on vacation in the Caribbean.

Scott, I'm so sorry to hear that your wife is in so much pain and that her condition has stymied the professionals. That's incredibly frightening. I wish her well in the new treatment and hope she finds relief soon. All the best to your family.

Thanks all(especially Lenny), I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving. Kelly, Mr. Pootz and I are about to take a drive into town and visit the Moving Wall which our National Guard has on display here in front of the Capitol building through the end of the week.

I'll post some pics later.

Scott--

I once had interstitial cystitis for months. Notice the past tense--it can go away! (My cancer is completely unrelated.) If everyone is sure that IC is Kelly's correct diagnosis, please tell her to take heart. Having an excellent doctor with specific knowledge of IC in women is the most important thing, and it sounds as if she might have one now. (I strongly recommend a specialist--a gynecologist who is knowledgeable about IC or the rare urologist who actually knows jack about women's bodies.)

I wish her well!

P.S.--Over the years, I had various scope-aided "housecleanings" (such as Kelly had) done too.

Scott-

My absolute best to you and Kelly. The toughest thing that life throws us is pain residing in a loved one.

I just started hanging out here again and am sorry to see that you are discouraged.

Same old story...those who come in with storng opinions and rapier wit are often transformed into caricatures of pixel malevolence.

The site loses alot of vibrancy when those like you call it quits.

Hang in there.

Bruce, you nailed it, brother. thanks for the good word.

Rita, I know that Kelly would be grateful for the kind and encouraging words. But they aren't necessary. I didn't fully explain in my first post that IC was something this "surgeon" she went to see thought was the problem.

BUT, the doctor she is now seeing at the university(who, as luck would have it, specializes in treating patients with IC)has assured her that that is most definitely not her problem. She had a urinalysis done which indeed proved this to be true.

I'm glad to hear that you recovered from IC, although, based upon what I have read about that condition, it makes me wonder if that is truly what you had, or whether your doctor was just reaching for a diagnosis. Either way, thankfully you do not suffer from it anymore.

Oh, and this new doctor is indeed a gynecologist. And professor of research. Kelly is incredibly pleased with him(she was in his office for two and a half hours, and the first hour was spent simply talking about her current state before he even began the exam which is the sign of a very good doctor). He is a graduate of the University of Texas, which is well known for churning out some of the best doctors out there.

Woohoo!! 300 posts! Brother Goodz, I'm comin to git ya!!!

Scott,

I am very glad Kelly is seeing a specialist and I sincerely hope that he is able to find a solution.

You are a fine husband and a real man to care for your wife on a level nobody else could approach. IMHO, this is sheer testiment to the excellent qualities you possess as a human being.

[Your politics suck, but what the hell...I like you anyway, dammit ]

Hang in there.
