New Mexico Photos...Including THE PIANO!
Hola, gang, and abrazos from San Miguel De Allende.
I am truly a lazy person, so it's blowing my mind to think of what we've gotten done so far. The house looks amazing--we're hosting 18 people for Thanksgiving, so Glenda is really focused on the environment. We haven't even been here a week yet, and already I've sat in on bass at Tio Lucas, set up a small studio in our casa, helped my friend mix a project, brought in my piano and eaten too much on several occasions. Tonight I wrote a newspaper article about an upcoming concert: Mo' Ritmo Presents 'Jazz For A Winter's Eve.'
And over the last two days I composed and demo'd a new instrumental--I can't figure out how to create an mp3 on this laptop yet, but I will.
Some photos of our exploits I thought you'd enjoy:
The guys bringing the piano in *on their shoulders*:
Unwrapping the Kawai:
And finally, set up in the atrium which used to be the home of a non-working hot tub:
And...
Ok, just one more of the piano, from the balcony of the master:

Here are some more:
I set up a small recording studio so I could compose:
Duffy taking the stairs like lightning...
And resting up from the trip!
I'm cheating on this one--it was taken at my 50th bday party in San Diego, and it features Duffy contemplating his portrait (by the same artist who did the cover of Two Days in November):

Hi, Val--give them my best, please. Let's all get together in Feb or March.
Jazzy Mary, don't be jealous--you've got the love of a good drummer to keep you warm from what I hear.

Wow, what a beautiful piano in an equally beautiful setting. I'm sure that I don't need to remind you of how fortunate you are, Doug.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Glenda and "the kids".

I am the luckiest man I know, but then I don't know Andrew Lloyd Webber or Kenny G.
Seriously, my good fortune humbles me and I do try to pass it on where it matters.

doug and glenda: must share with you a tidbit from my thanksgiving day. had a fabulous dinner with susan, david and four relatives of theirs in claremont. great food and laughs, etc. got into the car for the ride back to carmel valley and the first thing i hear in the car is "midlife chrysalis"!! susan and david have it in their cd player and are crazy about it (obviously!). the three of us listened all the way home with great pleasure and appropriate comments of appreciation!

That's very cool to hear, Val! Thanks for building up my fan base.
We had the most interesting Thanksgiving here in San Miguel. We'd been invited to a big party at a friend's new house. But they called right after we got here to say their house wouldn't be ready, and could we have the party at *our* house?
Well, our place wasn't exactly ready, but since it was a pot luck and weonly had to provide a salad, we worked hard to get it together andon Thanksgiving night, we threw a dinner party for 17 people including four kids, from 3 to 7! The house performed beautifully--candles, fireplaces, different seating areas all got used. Glenda and I sang a song then I played Grown and Mediocre Mama for the guests. We were left with wonderful leftovers to boot.
I'm kicking myself for not taking any pictures, but we do have some from just before the guests arrived--I'll post 'em later.

Pre-Thanksgiving snaps:

Table #2:

Glenda getting busy in the cocina:
And what would a photo post be without showing Phoebe and Duffy pitching in to get the house ready?

It will have to wait though, I've got this jones for San Christobal de las Casas.
